Steve,

I can't even imagine being part of a code team for family or friends. You must have been such a blessing to Debby throught this trial.

Tom

I haven't been on the site for awhile and haven't posted in years(where does the time go?) but am at a loss for words right now. I remember when the forum started years ago and having discussions and taking to heart the knowledge that Steve would freely dispense for all.

May God comfort his friends and family and I know he has a perfect spot for Steve to continue his pursuits in the next life. From an old sailor - May you have fair winds and following seas.

Dani,
I have met you a couple times when you were in Washington hunting with Steve. There is nothing I can say that hasnt been said already. I am sorry for yours and Debbie's loss, you are in my prayers. I also have a couple stories about time I spent with Steve.

Steve, I am so grateful that this happened where you were working. Thank you so much for being there for Debby.

Dave....love the picture. Glad you shared it. That was a cold day. Pretty unusual down there for even Steve to have to wear warm gloves like that. It was fun though. That place is no longer wadeable. I don't think you'd recognize it as the same place, other than the dikes we had to pedal down.

Thanks a lot again y'all. It has helped.

Dani

What else can be said...

- To Debbie and Steve's family, I am so sorry for your loss. Prayers for you .
- To Dani, thank you for being a great friend to Steve and helping Debbie in her time of need.
- To Doc McCullough, thank you for doing what you did for Debbie during her time of need. It was amazing, you were there.
- To the members of this forum, the time we had with him was precious.

Godspeed Steve! Pat

Hey Dani...Wow, I have no other words. Just wow! I just saw this through FB. Flat out shocked, that's the best way to put it. I can't imagine how you or Debbie or the rest of Steve's family feels. Steve had been in touch with me about making him a javelina call for a hunt that he was heading out for in January. I'm pretty sure he mentioned you were going on that hunt with him? If you are still going on that hunt please let me know and I'll get that call to you instead..no charge on that. It's not much given the circumstances, but if there is anything else I can do please let me know.

So sorry for you loss...my deepest condolences to you and Steve's family. He will be missed by a LOT of people.

Steve

Dani,
I read the post the day you put it up. I started to type and finally just closed my computer down. Steve influenced my life in many little ways, things to do it Florida, talking dogs, my plan to chase chukars with the dog before she got to old ( she is to old). We had talked about meeting up in North Dakota a few times but never managed to put it together. I can't begin to imagine the loss of those he was closest to Ill pray for each of you.

Dani,

I haven't been on-line for awhile and just now saw this. I'm so sorry to hear of Steve's passing. My deepest condolences to all.

I haven't been too active here for a number of years for a variety of reasons but I have always enjoyed reading Steve's posts and the interaction he and I have had over the years. I wish I would have had the opportunity to meet him in person. He was a good man.

Hey all,

Hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving.

I have been asked by a couple people about any more word on services for Steve. At this point all I know is that it will be after the holidays. Debby is pretty busy with all the things she has to do still and this is a really bad time of year to have to deal with it all. So at this point all I know is that it will be after the holidays. I will be going down this weekend to see her and help go through some stuff and maybe we will discuss it more then.

Thanks to everyone again for the notes, calls, texts and PMs. It has helped me more than I can say to be reminded that I have friends scattered all over the place. Please continue to keep Debby in your thoughts and prayers.

Dani

So sorry to hear this Dani!!! Jason told me right after it happened and I just haven't been getting on the site much lately. I can't imagine what Debby is going through and I know you are like a daughter to them and are feeling the loss like only family can. There is nothing in this world that can provide understanding about a situation like this. You're going to be confused, mad, sad, confused, lonely, mad (and the cycle goes on for a while) but the Lord can provide comfort and peace... it might only be temporary between aforementioned times, but lean on Him to get you through it as the Bible says he provides "grace for the day". I speak/type out of empathy, and from experience, and my heart continues to go out to all that were close to Steve and affected by this loss.

Boy, I was not prepared when stumbling upon this truly sad news. Despite never actually meeting Steve in person, I find myself grieving with the others who found this site....and Steve....years ago. He never failed to evoke something between a chuckle and a belly laugh from me while stating EXACTLY what he thought about anything whether in a post here or via email or phone. I always figured we?d run into each other in a gas station somewhere in central Montana or a boat launch in coastal Washington and it saddens me to know that won?t happen.

Dani, I always looked forward to your tales and photo-journaling of Hijinks on the Hi-Line with Steve over the years. Thanks for sharing your adventures with the rest of us and, thankfully, that?s preserved here as a means to introduce future DHBP visitors to the legacy of the irreplaceable Mr. Sutton.

Thanks Kyle, Dave....

Dave....while I may not be able to do the same level of trips that I have in the past, I do plan on still being able to make it out west on upland trips. The majority of my trips may have to be closer (like KS or NE or SD) but I will go out to MT and WA still. Maybe we will run into each other some time...if so perhaps we shall share a hunt or a drink....

I do have some stories to tell still....and I will post at some point....

Dani, I am so sorry to hear this. I remember when you first came to this page and how quickly Steve and you formed a friendship. I'm glad for the good times you had together!

I met Steve at the duck boat Rocky Point Resort hunt in 2001. Several members from all over the country were there with their boats. Steve came down from Washington to Upper Klamath Lake with a BBSB, a Fatboy and his jet sled. He brought a fellow from England that he was entertaining that was very interested in the duck boats we used in the US so he could go back to England and build a similar duck boat. We all marveled at the "London Best" SxS this fellow shot. Steve was like that, always helping others. After 2001, for a few years I would see Steve every Spring while I was wild turkey hunting on the Cascade Ranch in southern Oregon. I was hunting on my own and Steve was with Mike Kaiser. About 2004 or 2005 I stopped turkey hunting in Oregon and didn't see him again. When did he move to Florida? I did not know that and it seems strange to me he would move some place so different than Washington. It is tragic that such an entergenic and friendly person should die that way.

Jim,

Steve was born a GA boy who grew up in FL. I believe that they moved out to WA in 1983 or 1984. He and Debby's family are mostly all here in FL so when they moved to FL after Debby retired, it was more of a they were coming back home to FL.

They moved back about 3 or 4 years ago now.

Steve talked a lot about hunting turkeys with Mike. He had lots of great stories to tell and we had hoped to get out there one year. Steve talked to Mike this past turkey season and he told me that Mike had pretty much quit hunting for health reasons. I know that really bummed Steve out. I don't know if Mike has heard about Steve and I don't know how to contact him. Do you have his info still?

Dani,

Marge and I hunted the same ranch that Mike guided on. We paid the ranch owner directly, hunted on our own. At least a couple of years Mike and Steve stopped by our camp. Mike rated Steve as an all time favorite. Then the ranch changed hands and the new owners didn't allow hunting. Mike started guiding on a ranch next to it. For about six years Marge and I hunted with him. And he had a couple of very good stories about his hunts with Steve. Several years ago Mike had to quit guiding due to a very bad back. We haven't be in touch with him for a few years. The phone number I have for him is: 541 623 0768. His address is: Mike Kaiser, PO Box 124, Eagle Point, Oregon 97524. Hope you are able to contact him. Best, Worth
