Another season has arrived here on Long Island, NY! Took a ride out this Sunday 11/24 with my Father on our annual weekend opener hunting trip. He recently purchased a 14' duck boss from NJ and wanted to put it to the test after modifying it a bit with fellow member Rich F, after hunting out of his Southbay duck boat for 20+ years. I followed along in the 14' TDB so his 6'8" had plenty of room in his own boat. The day called for rain, tide was dropping & winds picking up! Looking good for us waterfowlers, we found a nice spot to set-up where a single drake mallard cupped up to the decoys to which I missed disappointedly after 2 shots.. my father laughed it off and followed up with a nice drake blackduck. Mid-day the winds changed and we found ourselves at the brunt of the wind, rain & rough chop. We headed east around the island for a better advantage with the changing winds and after 5 minutes of re-loacating I noticed a pair of mallards heading right towards us! Unfortunately for pops he couldn't get his gun out of the case quick enough to which I dropped a Hen mallard out of the pair, only to find a nice piece of jewlery on her leg to kick off the 2019-2020 season! Here's a few photos of the day figured I'd share, best of luck to all this season & stay safe!

Great pictures and congrats on the band. The picture of the banded duck being held in victory overhead is something anyone lucky enough to get a band can relate to. What a feeling!

I sure do agree with you, Anthony, that the way you started your season has to be extremely euphoric. The other 99% of us could only dream about it. Congrats. Thanks so much for those excellent pictures.

Congrats on the jewelry. The victory hoist is how I imagine it to be for every hunter who gets a band. Beautiful.

That Duck Boss 14, would that be a new Duck Invader?

Good morning, Anthony~

Congratulations to you and your Dad on a fine opener! Great photos as always.

Are those Chesapeake decoys?

All the best,

SJS
