Snowed out

Anthony -

I am already thinking about the trout that are finning away in the cold water, not far from our home.[smile]

Best regards
Vince

with the snow on the ice - it will take a bit, there is limited moving water in the marsh -

so, i have been thinking the same thing - trout or maybe steelhead

The ice spud bar I used was fairly light weight, hollow tube steel shaft with a T-handle and lanyard, w/ 2" wide ice chisel welded on the business end.
Nothing like the big heavy weight ones used in steel mills, etc...

I knew a few guys who forgot the put the landyard around their hands and when the punched through, the spud slipped through their gloves and went to the bottom. Never going to get it back if you're in more than 4' or 5' of water!

Spud Bar - A place where Spuds McKenzie hangs out hoping to find Mrs. Spud.......

Had to use the old spud bar a few times this year both at the landing and out in the slough. Same thing, break away this ice at the landing and to clear a spot to place decoys. Send that ice downriver.

One of the places I hunt has quite the steep landing. They take out the dock early and then never used to plow it after that. I did the same, brought along the little snowblower with some ice melt and cleared my own landing. I've gotten lucky the past couple of years. The county maintenance shed is up the hill from this particular landing. One morning while bowing it out down comes a plow truck. Driver gets out and tells me to move over. Turns out he is a life long deer hunter and appreciates us outdoorsy people. Never had ben duck hunting so I took him out later in the season. He now plows the landing and lays down sand through the end of duck hunting. Nice guy.

Got to hunt only a couple of times when it was snowing this year. Nothing better in my book. The peacefulness of being out when it is snowing is unlike other duck hunting experiences (my opinion)

Good luck on your season, ours was done a week ago.

Vince Vince VINCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You always make me smile. You have a great out look on everything my friend. Muzzle loader season down here is next week, I'm ready. But I am still going to find a way to get out on that dang Hudson River. Going to be near fifty next week here with lots of rain. Should be some heck of a mess. I'll keep you posted. Thanks again for looking at the positive side. Merry Christmas and God Bless.

I guess for you that is like twenty below. We all deal with different weather and we all bitch. But I wouldn't have it any other way. As Vince tells me: The animals and birds we love to go after win once in a while. I'm okay with that. Hope God turns the heat up for you guys down there. Have a great Christmas its coming fast.
