Made it

We finally got out to the west side and the scenery did not disappoint!

A welcomed sight! Especially after the disaster that was Nebraska

We took 20 through Bend and the end goal was Waldport way out on the coast. We were hoping to see some mountains but the freezing fog rolled in before we made Bend then night fall came shortly after. There were some cool sights in this new path we took

But we finally made it through Bend which was jam packed full of skiers. the mountain switch backs were a little hairy in pea soup fog with bmw?s and Mercedes ripping by at 80mph.

We were greeted with 50 degrees and the rain and wind that come with the coastal winter. We much rather that than snow. Unfortunately the pacific decided it was mad and stayed between 12-20 ft. Non-cooperating tides made it so no diving was to be had. But we were still happy to be there. View attachment 9C367C53-A241-4207-AD3E-556B5575212E.jpeg

This could be a good dive spot when the ocean finally calms down a bit.

Rogue?s headquarters is in Newport and is an awesome brewery with really cool people. Every so often they have a garage sale with mislabeled, returned, miss bottled beer is sold ridiculously cheap. We got 2 cases of beer for almost nothing!

Very cool. Are you hunting there this year or just scouting for future seasons?

I plan to go to Washington state next year or the year after to hunt with a buddy of mine that I grew up with that is stationed out there in the navy.

Hey Chris,

Glad the trip went well. Our son lives in Bend. Brews beer at the Cascade Lakes Brewery. Was a fly fishing guide (about 10-12 years) in Colorado and Oregon before deciding to make beer. Still has his dory and is always looking for a chance to get on the river. PM me for details if you'd like.

Might buy a temp license, probably won?t buy a non resident annual seeing as there isn?t much left to the season.

This will be our third winter in the PNW and we have scouted a bunch(basically the whole coast to Brookings) Just have to find the right house so we can settle down, we are both tired of the 3000 mile drive lol and New England winters.

Jim I?ll keep that in mind, but for the time being I?m gonna stay away from bend, too much snow lol.

Chris, The annual license in Oregon starts January 1st so if you buy it now you can hunt next fall. But the three day license is pretty reasonable. I don?t have any plans to head that far down the coast until after the season but let me know if you wanna drive up here and chase some divers.

Nice roadtrip Chris. Last time I talked with you I thought you guys were going to be moving out to the coast. Did that not come together?

I loved living near the Columbia river, What an awesome place (Particularly from Longview on down to the Mouth.

I had to laugh when I saw about your good deal on the beer. When I lived in Portland, one of my buddies had a Job at the Brewery Portland Brewing i THINK.

When we'd have band practice, he'd show up and have a couple of flats of beers that they couldn't sell because the bottle wasn't full to the fill line, or there was a bad seal etc, so we'd be forced to dispose of it properly. I remember going to lots of practices, but i only remember coming home from a few.

It was a long time back in a different life.

Oregon keeps going through changes and we keep getting cold feet. I can deal with the high taxes and inflated housing prices but once they start messing with the guns, it?s basically going to turn into California with worse weather.

Astoria is awesome and the Lewis and Clark Area is silly with birds, but the only dive spot is the barview in tillamook. It?s a good spot but gets pounded.

We really like the southern coast because there are less people and diving/hunting opportunities would be much less pressured.

We have a good number of friends around the Newport area too which we really like but it?s still influenced by Portland.

I can tell you we already don?t like the Oregon City Area. Way too many people, and portlandites. But we didn?t drive 3200 miles to be in a city.

We brought our kegging equipment too, 50$ for a 1/2 keg is just unreal. There just wasn?t anything that we wanted to drink that much of during the last garage sale.
