Hey guys! Sure have missed you all. I apologize for my absence. Seems like the last post I had was spring turkey of 2019. Since that time it has been a whirlwind of activity. I did kill two more Merriams with my bow following that post.

Then it was a whirlwind trip to Saskatchewan where in a week's timeframe my wife and I built two new cabins for our outfitting business.

Moving onto the summer
I once again fought fire for the US Forest Service and although it was a relatively wet year I was still able to make fire assignment trips to the UP Michigan, New Mexico, Arizona, and California.

Immediately following fire season the family and I rushed to Saskatchewan for outfitting season. As usual it was a wonderful time of old and new friends, hunts, and memories made to last for a lifetime.

Once the season wrapped up we headed back to South Dakota, I was able to sneak in some archery time before getting back to work and I connected on a nice public land spot and stalk mule deer on National Grassland.

Which brings me to the final part of my long winded post......woohhhh. I was offered a job by a client and it seems like a good fit long term for the family so I said goodbye to the Forest Service, Firefighting, teaching, carpentry, and all my other seasonal gigs to a more steady lifestyle, paycheck, and family life.

I currently am in the Fergus Falls area of MN and as soon as the school year is over the family will be relocating here as well. So that being said, what with diver ducks and lots is water the ducker will be getting used A LOT more this coming fall. Oh and I purchased another ducker I found online too.

So who here is in MN? Might need some new hunting partners!

Thanks for everyone that took the time to read this. Looking forward to getting reacquainted with everyone!

good luck Kyle!

I have enjoyed Pete's tales of hunting with you in Canada. I hope you worked out something for guiding season with the new boss so I can finally make it up to experience it first hand.

Kevin,

The new bosses are willing to give me as much time off as I want to continue my outfitting in Saskatchewan

The old adage states the youth is wasted on the young, nice to see that someone your age fully understands that time does fly! Well done!

Congratulations on the new job and your adventures. That's a really nice mule deer!

The sandhill cranes....do you hunt them over decoys? What time of year is best for hunting them?

What a slacker - only two cabins in a week?

Sounds like you have been busy. Good luck on the move to MN. I live here and have for most of my life but Ferguson Falls is a ways from me and I can?t help much (not at all really) on hunting slots or people in your area. Should you get down towards the cities I know of a few places.

Thanks, I was married young and had kids young. I also was in the military out of high school and saw friends not make it back. Also had a friend die in 2011 fighting wildland fire like I did.

All of these things make a young man realize how short life is and to appreciate everything you get.

Thanks! Yeah I was really happy with the mule deer. It was a very memorable hunt that couldn't have gone any better.

For my area in Southern Saskatchewan they come through in the end of September/early October. Saskatchewan limit is 5 a day which I believe is the highest in North America. I hunt them over silosock decoys. I use 8-15 dozen to help hide 4-6 guys. Absolutely no dogs. They are a very vocal bird so calling can really improve your success.

Mark,

I believe I saw in another thread where you are retired now. That makes it the perfect opportunity for you to come up to Fergus Falls and hunt with me! Lol
