Meet Tweed -

we lost our last setter a couple days before Christmas- I don't take such things well and didn't tell many people, but a couple weeks later I got an email from a breeder I know asking if I knew anyone looking for a pup, he had a large litter on the ground.

My wife knew what would happen when we went down to see them, out came the checkbook. We visited a couple more times before they were ready to go home.

when the day came, I have never had such a hard time picking a pup, they were all beautiful bundles of energy. there were two Tri colors, and I leaned towards them simply because I have never had one. but all great heads.

I sat on the floor for over an hour playing with and handling each of them - my wife finally said "you know you have to make a choice"

so I looked at the pups running around and said - OK guys help me decide, and he ran over, jumped on my lap and licked my face

decision made,

the funny thing is my wife said that was the the one I favored, I didn't think so, but she pulled up pictures from our several visits and invariably, this was the pup I was holding or was climbing in my lap. They do chose us as much or more than we chose them.

I am sure the others chose good homes.

but - with dreams of birds ahead and lots of work to do protecting furniture and other stuff from sharp puppy teeth -

He came home last weekend and was well accepted by our golden Macallan at the door, and even the cats seem to think he can stay. He is a quick learner, after the first day he has only had one accident in the house - our fault for not noticing he went to the door. He sits to go out and when he comes in, and found a whistle where I store collars and chargers and started answering that right away.

Rick,

I do agree.

They do choose us more than we choose them.

Tweed is a fine lookin' little guy, that will know doubt grow to be a Best Friend and family member.

I like all that white, and classic setter head. You will have no problem seeing him work in the thick stuff.

May you all have many wonderful years, and bird seasons together.

Best regards
Vince

Rick,

Tweed is a handsome little fella! I love his little mask. I look forward to seeing posts in how he progresses and all the birds he is gonna find for you.

Rick,

Very nice looking pup. Will be following his progress. Are your plans for him to be upland and waterfowl or just upland?

thanks I think he will be a handsome dog

he is just for the uplands,

Macallan - my golden- is only 4, there is a lot of swimming left in him

I truly enjoy watching a pointing dog work on upland birds - just like seeing a retriever work out a long retrieve

Good for you and congratulations on the new pup. We did exactly the same selection process,Rufus picked me, i can't leave home without him and i seldom do.
Best wishes and best of luck with the new family member.

Very nice looking pup. I like his markings also, plus it's going to be easy to see him in thick leafy cover with all of that white. Keep us posted on his progress. Tweed is a good name for him; very unique.

What a good looking pup! Congrats on the new addition.

Picking a pup can be a stressful process. With my current dog I visited the litter 5 or 6 times as they grew. On the day I had to pick I narrowed it down to two like you. Like you no amount of logic pointed to either one. After a while I just gave in to the one that wouldn't leave me alone. He wasn't the perfect pick but he want to be mine.
As we left the breeder he chuckled saying "I didn't know which one you were going to pick but I knew which one picked you right away."

Good luck with the pup,
Tim
