Today was opening day for turkey hunting here in Upstate New York State. Now that in its self is a wonderful and fun day. But this opening day was so different. Being jailed in our homes like convicts sucks. I spent over twenty years as a Correction Officer so I know what I'm talking about. Being locked down is not my cup of tea. Plus the misses is home working and that's a pain in the butt. So come hell or high water I was going hunting today. My health isn't the greatest so I never hunt alone anymore. Until today! both of my sons had to work and couldn't go. So I said I'm going. I rather be outside doing what I love then stuck in my house. So at 5:15 this morning I was in my blind alone. At the crack of dawn I heard five different Toms gobbling. I knew this was going to be a great day. I had three decoys out and I was ready for action. Once those birds hit the ground there wasn't another sound the rest of the day. As the morning rolled on a hen ran right into the decoys. She started playing with the eight or so squirrels and a young deer and a river rat that was in front of my blind. Then about eight different types of birds joined in the group. Red birds , blue birds, blue jays black birds ,red wing black birds It was so cool and pretty. Then a pair of geese landed on my pond doing a fly over like the blue angels. And then joined the party with the others. I don't know what happen to me but I was in heaven. I laughed my butt off with the actions of the birds and squirrels. But still was hoping that that big Tom with come in silent . As the noon quitting time was near. I just still sat there and watched. It was like freedom at its best! I guess. I have killed many big turkeys in my life. And I have never had to stay out the whole day of Turkey season. But today I just couldn't leave the blind. I enjoyed every minute of today out there. I may never do it again. But I will tell you its not about kill its about the wonders of life. Those animals and birds didn't have to stay six feet apart. I didn't see one mask. And they looked all healthy. I hope we get back to that soon. Thought I would share a day of nothing, That to me it was full of everything. Stay healthy and safe, posted a picture of a turkey I got last season or the one before that. Didn't want you to think I was going soft.[cool]View attachment IMAG1068_BURST001.jpg
