A Chickasaw Covid-19 Pintail Effigy Decoy

I had come across this carving on another "blog" site and was so impressed with the artistic license and freedom this young man took with this decoy/decor. I contacted him (Joshua Hinton) and got his OK to post here. He's a Native American member of the Chickasaw Nation in Oklahoma, a duck hunter and decoy carver.

These are his notes: " White pine head, white cedar body, oak tail, painted with Rustoleum and oils. Eye motif is a stylized Corona Virus with a Mississippian weeping eye death mask motif. Wing patches (Speculum) incorporate a Moundeville death skull and femur motifs framing a circular Corona virus. Owner of this decoy is a physician who requested Native American symbology"

Thought I' d share.

Good morning, Ken~

Great imagination - and execution! I vote to renew Mr. Hinton's Creative License.

All the best,

SJS

Ken,

Thanks for the post.

I see Mr. Hinton's work regularly on the sight you mention.

Native American art & craft has always interested me, and I very much appreciate it.

There is a spirituality and creativity in art & craft that threads through all human beings, and keeps us connected.

The quote at the bottom of my posts sez it all IMO.

Best regards
Vince

I always thought Native American's never received enough credit for there work. When the Europeans came to the shores of the now USA the Native Americans
taught them the ways of the land that we stole from them.Duck Decoys, trapping, spearing decoys, were already apart of there life that they passed on to the
Europeans. And it seems like they don't get much credit for that.
