Suppose to snow Tuesday back home with a cold front that is coming through right now. Tuesday is going to be a great morning to be out. I love hunting in the snow. Love love love it......

I'm jealous! it was 74 here in Tampa this morning, going to be 90 today.

Feel free to post pictures to show us southerners what turning weather looks like!!! It's still in the mid to upper 80s in N. FL. Waaaaaay too warm and muggy for October...I got super excited because I had a few days that were actually "cool" and then BAM! Back to summer again, just with less sunshine.

We have had some dandy frosts. Much cooler weather, and wind.

Now we are getting much needed RAIN.

Still a long way to go before ponds, lakes, marshes, and wet spots come back.

In the right wind high flying Canada geese winging south.

Trees are past peak colors, and the woods much more open.

Buck are trailing does, rubs and scrapes galore and it's game on.

Deer went from sleek and lean, to piggy plump in 6 weeks of feeding on acorns.

In certain conditions the BWO's are on, and a dry fly fishing I go.

Deep winter will be here soon enough.

Life is good.

Aw nuts. We're supposed to hit a low of 17 tonight, with 2-3 MPH winds. That's a recipe for pretty hard water, and effectively the end of duck season unless something changes. That's way too soon as far as I'm concerned.

I've been keepin' a close eye on the Duck Factory weather. As that is where my waterfowlers heart & mind are.

If as in the past.

The GRAND PASSAGE is about to get a helluva kick start.

No days to burn at home boys and girls!

The SHOW waits for no one.

17?? Wow, Where are you located?

Must be inland, because it take a lot of days at 17 to make salt water ice. LOL!

The high country got a little snow here on Saturday, but all rain down here. We needed it badly!

Roseau, Minnesota - northwestern part of the state 12 miles from the Manitoba border. Thief Lake where I hunt is 7100 acres and 3-4' deep and all fresh, so it cools off quickly. My son and I are going to try and break ice out from the boat launch in the morning.

Well, it hit 17 this morning and everything was frozen up. There were a half dozen camps at the boat launch, but none of those guys (that already had their boats in the water) had gone out yet - waiting for a guinea pig I guess. My son and I launched and broke ~3/4" of ice all the way out the channel, and through the marsh, and onto the big water. No holes bigger that a 1/4 acre. We broke an open hole and set some decoys next to a bulrush island. Then the snow started and turned the ice white.

Eagles were working the birds in the sanctuary, and every once in a while a bunch of several hundred would split off and head south. Interesting to watch, but sobering knowing that our Thief Lake duck season was ending too soon.

We each ended up with a can that came to the decoys, so it was a fitting end to our time on Thief...

Don't know what type of boat you use.

Heavy snow, and a marsh boat are a recipe for trouble. Freeboard becomes very skimpy, very quickly.

But Man O Man the shooting can be fantastic!

Be aware that your taking on lots of weight, in a short span of time.

Do not allow the good hunting to get you in trouble before ya know it.

Some of my best days are like that.

On the Edge.
