Proposal of firearms ban - Norwalk, CT public boat launch

For anyone not in the know who may hunt the Norwalk Islands in CT, this meeting is tonight. Discussion over the carrying of firearms on city owned or leased properties in Norwalk. Exceptions would need to be made for the boat launch if accessing the islands. Some commission members brought this up in October meeting, but not sure what outcome will be.

A link to the zoom meeting can be found below (it's the ordinance committee at 7pm). Apologies if this isn't the place to sound this off, but I know there are folks in CT here who likely utilize this launch and the Norwalk islands (some of which are USFWS owned).

Thanks Nick, I hadn't heard about this, but I know the area is a trouble area and I used to launch out of there a lot. I talked to the Head of the Wildlife Division a couple years back about the issue. Difficult challenge. For me, I'd have DEEP close the harbor to shooting, which is where the problem stems from.

Nick, thanks for the heads up. From what I gather they want to ban ALL Firearms, which include pistol permits on town owned properties. I understand that they will allow you to take your gun from your vehicle to your boat while launching at vets park.
Tod in regards to your suggestion it has already been done. All hunting at vets field and calf pasture beach are closed. Also the harbor is closed to hunting, this was enacted last year. Look in the 2020-2021 regs for a better explanation.

Go ahead, let the camel stick it's ugly nose under the tent!!!! Those sobs are apparently not aware of the existence of the second amendment!! WHAT A CROCKADOODIE! Give a liberal an inch and he will be knocking on your door!

I'm aware of a number of places here that have no discharge zones by either state law or state or town rule, but have never heard of a ban on all firearms except inside some public buildings. (Like our statehouse.)

I launch from a number of places where the boat launch or parking lot for the launch are within no-discharge zones, and at each of them I've confirmed with local police that carrying a cased gun from my vehicle to the boat is legal. That's probably overkill, but I figure better safe than sorry. It's tricky enough to be at a boat launch that technically opens at sunrise in the pre-dawn so I can hunt, and I'd rather not be arguing with a local cop about my shotgun while talking my way through that.

I don't trust anything in CT. You can't hunt in Westport due to their regs (before other hunting regs). I have had the same conversation with some officers at launches myself but it seems more and more area in the Gold Coast gets closed up and any inch leads to a mile.

Yeah, it's different here. Many times when I make that call to the local police, we end up trading information on hunting spots, or they inform me of other legal but not well-known spots I can park legally and access the water. I lucked out when Dad moved us from Connecticut to Maine.
