Keeled a few

Derek Zumwalt sent me these birds several years back. They?ve been keeping me company in the shop patiently waiting to be keeled and put to use. Getting back out with the new pup inspired me to finally take action. Derek sent me some lead circles to screw to the bottom but I had to get fancy and make some nice hardwood keels to match the looks of the birds. While I was doing that I slipped up while using, improperly, a wood chisel and drove it into my hand. Nothing like a trip to the ER to wrap up 2020, should have waited till 2021 to break out the sharp tools. Greg, ouch! Sharp tools are a godsend but they bite back. I feel for you. Some say it?s not a complete project til you bleed on it. Never stuck one in my hand but I?ve certainly sliced and diced fingers and knuckles with Uber sharp chisels. Tell us about that old workbench.

Derek, those are some nice looking blocks.

Nice job on the hand Greg. Reminds me of the first time I did that. I was younger than third grade cuz we were living in CA. My dad was making something incredible (to my very young mind) and I wanted to try to make something as incredible. Since he had told me multiple times not to touch his tools, I had to of course give it a try. The good thing was the tools were kept very sharp. Bad thing was I did a pretty good job of attempting to fillet my palm.

I have had it happen a few more times since the first time. Clearly I am a slow learner.

The work bench is one heckuva workbench.

It?s an interesting bench especially with the name plate, square dog holes and cracked leg vise. I?ll bet it?s seen quite a few feet of lumber go over it.
