1986-87 Evinrude 15 Issues

Having some issues getting my motor to idle. Ive played around with the timing, rebuilt the carb, replaced the fuel pump, new spark plugs. After having no success I rebuilt the carb again and noticed this worn spot in the air/fuel mixture chamber on the top of the carb. Wondering if anyone has the same carb and knows how many holes should be in this chamber as I plan to cover the holes with JB Weld and redrill the small holes.

I only have a 91 johnson 25 2cyl and a 98 3 cylinder evinrude 3 cyl 25hp. Looking at the pic seems to tell me that the crack may not be helping the air fuel mixture ratio. Some schematic may be able to show you that. If I was a betting man I would say 2. Thanks Markus Out of curiosity let us know what you may have found out?

I didnt notice the crack when I first looked at the image, not until Markus pointed it out. I'd say you have a serious flaw/structural issue in the carb body.

I agree. After digging deeper into this motor, I discovered that the compression has dropped very low. About 50 psi. I was tired of dropping money into it and feeling unsafe out there so I went out and bought a 20hp tohatsu. Love it so far. I will have to either sell the evinrude for parts or replace the power head.

A decision that will be made when I have more time!
