Higbee Transom Handles best material

Hi All,

These galvanized steel handles don't last very long because they are constantly submerged then dried off, submerged again. I do rinse after any saltwater hunt, but pressed steel design traps water.

Does anybody know a good source for Stainless, or Silicon Bronze or Brass, even make them out of Teak, Black Locust, Osage Orage, etc? Ideally the 4 holes in each of the 2 handles would line up with existing holes which are on 1inch x 5.5inch spacing. Photos in 2nd post (my cellphone camera doesn't link with my laptop).

Thanks for any input.

I had never seen these before - and can think of some uses right away. Of course, I typically take the Old School "make my own from hardwood with carriage bolt and backer block approach" - but the "reinforced" trait is appealing. I think I'll install 2 or 3 on my partner's TDB 17 before next season.

Thanks!

Dave,

I have a set of very, very hefty transom handles that never made it on the back of mine. These are not your typical screen door handles. Just never had the time to put them on. Pay for shipping and they're yours as they are collecting dust in my garage.

Shoot me a PM.

Thanks to All for at least 4 ideas and kind offers thus far. I will let everyone know how this works out.

Once again the positive spirit of this site/forum comes through with a solution...
