David builds a really great boat. I'm really enjoying using it. I have push poled this rig into some skinny water and have had a great hunt. The garvey has a lot of room and hunting two people is not an issue. The 30 hp Mercury is plenty of power and even with 2 people & decoys the boat is quick. Truly the best duck boat I've owned and I've had a few.

Dave was doing well when I picked up the boat. He was starting another build. I enjoyed going to his shop and talking about the boats he builds and was building. Dave is a passionate builder of his boats. I would encourage anyone who is looking for a boat like mine or the estuary that he builds to reach out to him.

Carl, Yes and No. A true garvey is where the bottom meets the deck at the bow. Like a true BBSB is where the bottom has no chine and it meets the deck ( feather edge). A Devlin is a Pram style ( bow transom). I guess it all depends where you from.

What about the chicken breasted garvey? I agree the sled runner profile garvey is the traditional shape but there have been variants.

Chinoteague scow from my immediate area is what jersey, n.york boys call a garvey. The scow done by Jester & Hancock just had more graceful lines to bow, rounded instead of squared and made a fine duck boat in its day. Sadly replaced by the cheapness of the first carolina skiffs.

Roy, Your right on they are cheap, I was Tom's Garvey at Tuckerton and it was $8200 plan, I wanted to see what the Flapper Boards looked like that Tom put on but with all that grass you can't even see the deck.

Tom strip the grass off at the end of the season.

Toller boats used a neat idea for flapper boards on some of his early boats. Wire shelving available at Lowes/ Home depot, etc. Comes in long lenghts and various widths. Allows grass to be zip tied directly to it thru grid and most certainly lightweight on the flip.

Tom,
How much of the Garvey is fiberglass ? Hull and deck? Just curious i am familiar with the Estuarys.
Do you have daves contact info.
Thanks,Bill.

Bill, the hull is fiberglass. My deck is wood covered in fiberglass. I believe Dave offered the boat in all fiberglass or the wood deck like mine. As far as Dave's information, if you google search estuary boats there is the website for his boats and contact information. As I said in previous posts, Dave builds a fantastic boat and they are worth every penny.
