I stopped in at our local Home Depot today to get a few sample jars of paint, the type Steve Sanford recommends in his painting tutorials. The clerk at the paint counter said they didn't have any available in flat texture paint. I asked when they would restock the jars for flat texture paint and he said they were just using up the remaining jars of egg shell, etc but when they were used up they were discontinuing the sample jars. They will use the coloring system for quart and gallon cans, but no more small 4 oz jars. Maybe some stores have some flat texture still available if you check around??Maybe Lowes or another company carries the same paints; I have not checked about that.
 
Your best bet is to order them online. I ordered all the paints to paint a brant rig per Steve's guide. I think, with shipping, everything came to $60 and its probably enough paint to re-do the rig over 5-6x. I used Behr, Indoor/Outdoor, flat's. They don't really stock the flats because people want mostly eggshells, satin's, and gloss.

The Behr asmples jars I have always gotten from Home Depot have been Matte - not dead Flat. If I need quarts, I do get dead Flat.


Because of Covid, I have not been in a HD much over the past year. I will be in Saratoga Springs Monday - so I will try to order a sample.


On the other hand, it seems like every paint retailer nowadays can mix up any other brand's paint - because they can get their formulae on-line. My last batch of Behr's "Espresso Beans" (Black Duck body and many other species).

I went to our Home Depot in Saratoga Springs on Monday. Not only did they make me a sample jar (Behr Mocha Latte) - but had a sale: only 98 cents!
