puntie grass boat

Thought I would share, this grass boat I started to build after work and on weekends prior to this season. Recently having picked up a SBDB I was unsure what to do with it. I couldn't let it go un finished and will be glassing it soon.

All fir major frames and syp for small stuff, 1/2 ac plywood all around. Inside is copper coat wood preservative then primer and 3 coats of exterior latex paint. unlike a garvey hull there is no rocker to the boat only a slight rise in the bow. basically a simple box but they float and plane off well. Will post up more pictures soon and will get a "vintage" picture of my old boat.

Bill, it is just under 4ft in width so that it can fit in a truck bed between wheel wells. the length is 11' 4". I built an outboard plank that will be carriage bolted through the transom, originally planned on a 9.9

2 runners will be carriage bolted through the floor once it is glassed to keep it from sliding all over under way.

Going to get doors and rails. Although I was thinking of using nylon strapping in place of traditional grass rails

Carl,

No plans but very simple build. Basically a rectangle with the transom angle of 13 degrees. The curvature in the front starts at about 1/3 of the total length. The rise in the bow is just under 6" in that length, Totally flat aft- no rocker. Going to get some rub rails which should help keep spray down.

Wow nice work,

I used a boat like that to Jack crabs back in the early 70's.
It was powered by a 1961, 10 horse johnson outboard
Looking forward to seeing the finished boats.

As for the grass rails, how could you not make wood rails?

Bill,
I love jacking, still manage to get a few bushels every night in September and eels here and there. Was actually going to use my south bay for it this summer, just gotta find a spot to put the lanterns

Luke,
Talk about Jacking,
Summer of 72 I made $1300.00 selling Blue claws, shedder, soft shell crabs, ells, Killies, and blood worms.

I then used some of that money to buy a brand new Remington 870 , shells, decoys, hunting licence, clothes.
It was a lot of work it wall also a lot of fun.

Bill,

Any chance you can remember what you got a piece for a shedder then? We get $8 now. Had to be significantly different back then

Crazy to see the difference. Ive worked commercially 10 years in TOH. In high school necks were 18 cents a piece 10 years ago and I thought that was good, getting that for large now. Not a bad thing but crazy to think how prices have gone up since

Also Looks real similar to the Guenther Garvey someone posted a few weeks back.
