Cc Boats

I own a 21 tidewater center console and I was wondering if I could use it for duck hunting. Obviously I wouldn?t hunt from it but, if I could use it as a means of transportation. I was wondering if I put camo wrap over it and place it 100-150 yards away from me. I wanna know if it will flare ducks, thanks.

Should be fine for ocean ducks if you're hunting from it. I think 150 yards would be plenty. If it's white maybe just put a tyvek suit on and hunt from it. Not sure what type of hunting you're looking to do

I,m going to assume your hunting ducks from bank and walking over to blind from boat. Guessing also your talking about a white center console. The farther away the better upwind from blind. Couple hundred yds if thats a white hull. Then you may run into problem of retrieving your shot birds and in particular losing cripples with that long walk to boat. Any kind of drab/camo cover would be to your advantage . Just have to make sure its not more problem to remove from boat to get under way than its worth. If its going to get wet try to find a cover thats synthetic so it doesn,t soak up a lot of water. The better a white boats covered the closer you could park it to blind. Is where you hunt an allowable location for a boat hide with brush/trees? All this kind of applies to puddle ducks. Divers you can get away with a lot more and sea ducks don,t really care in most instances. But I doubt your hunting sea ducks from bank but possably rocks, jetty.

It would primarily hunting puddle ducks from the salt marsh, so can?t really use trees to brush it in. I think I?m going to wrap it in some type of synthetic wrap and bank it 150-200 yards away. Curious as to why you said bank it upwind instead of down?

Bank it up wind So birds aren,t approaching to stool from area of boat location. Less chance of them not liking something. And where able to on our salt marshes small pines ,cedars, even bayberry stuck in bottom around boat parking area to hide boat doesn,t bother them at all. If area you can control sink about 4 posts in bottom with a 2x4 rail to wire brush to. Know of one group that actually hides a 24' aluminum commercial cabin boat in that setup and continualy kills birds from blind location. Mostly black ducks and other assorted puddlers. Boat hide about 200 yds from blind. Bottom in front of blind can be waded for setting decoys and he uses dog for retrieves. Birds get use to seeing that brush pretty quick and just assume part of landscape.

Ok thank you, haven?t really done much research on some spots just trying to figure out if I can even do it. Thanks for the help.

If your hunting public probably not a good idea if even an option as far as boat hide goes. Private that you have access to would work good.

On Long Island my experience is that by in large ducks don't fear white boats, especially if you doing something else. For quite a few years I would camo cover my Carolina Skiff in an effort to "hide" and it worked well. But then I noticed that when clamming or just hanging out, the birds went directly overhead. No worries at all. After that I started just drifting along the banks or through some of the marsh creeks and had great success pass shooting.

Other times I would drop off the decoys and anchor the boat 100 - 150 yards away, downwind if possible so the birds didn't see the boat and decoys at the same time and shoot from a ground blind. Both approaches were very productive for Blacks, Mallards, Brant and the occasional goose.

Interesting, I think I?ll give it a try but I?m probably going to camouflage it anyways just to stay cautious. Thank you

Guys did this often when I hunted MS Sound. Most either had a dog or a kayak to retrieve birds/chase cripples.
Its gotta be pain to walk 100-200 yards, un-anchor the big boat to chase cripples or birds that float into deeper water.

Make sure to anchor the CC well and watch the tides.
A 21' cc stranded on a mud flat is going absolutely no where until the tide returns.
Nor is it a very good thing to look over and see that your anchor has slipped and your boat drifting out to sea or simply gone!

Are they members of an old Ocean City family? If so, I know the boat.

Your solution would be tough in NJ, very little of the marsh along the bays and ocean is privately owned. I think the idea of anchoring it 100-150 yards away would be fine. My experience, limited though it might be (yuk yuk), is that ducks are not that concerned with a boat if nobody is in it.

Youre right on the money with the family. Of course they own the island / marsh where they do this so no issues and walkable bottom out a good ways from blind. When i,ve hunted next island south we,ve actually used 24' seaark cabined transport boat parked in area we didn,t want birds to land in that was about 150 yds from point blind and it worked well for that purpose.
