Sneak box dolly

I have a higbee sneak box. I was wandering if anyone ever took two dollies and made a cradle with them. What I mean is to take the boat offf the trailer and turn it on it?s edge and build kinda cradles on two 4 wheel dollies to move it around in my garage? It takes up a lot of space in the off-season and I don?t need. It until fall? I?d like to keep it in garage. If not I gotta cover it and put 4? pvc rollers on ground and store it under my deck

Is your garage set up that you could hang the sneak box from the ceiling or rafters? My dad did that with his kayaks...they could be raised and lowered because the lines were on pulleys.

Just a thought

What is estimated weight? It's not like you're hanging a kayak or canoe. Make sure your hanger hardware is sturdy enough...

Good morning, Joe~

I made a couple of display racks (museum exhibit) for some Scooters a few years ago. They did not have to be moved, so I made them from light framing. For your use, I would frame with 2x4s and stiffen them with gussets of half-inch plywood.

Here is a head-on conceptual sketch. I would make sure that the vessel is stable when up on its chines like this - so it will not tip out with slight effort.

The plywood gussets provide strength - but you may want/need to add a 2x4 stiffener across the back.

I did not provide dimensions, but I am thinking 2 ft deep by 4 ft tall. The distance between the 2 frames could be between 4 and 6 feet. Because Sneakboxes have so much curve at their chines, you probably need to space them close to 4 feet to keep the chine off the floor.

A set of casters would make it handy to scoot around your garage as needed.

Having said all that - if your vessel is traditional wood, I would not store it on edge - it should be dead level and well-supported when stored, either upright or flipped, but level.

Hope this helps!
