Tolman widebody skiff

No one here that I know of. I thought about it pretty seriously, and so have others.

Tod,
Was there something specific that made you stay away? It looks like it would be a good all around boat. I have a large sea duck rig but this may fill the need for striper and trout fishing. A honker has some appeal to me as well.

No, if I wanted a boat in that size, that would be what I?d build. My needs changed and I decided to spend my time elsewhere.

I have a friend building a stich and glue that is 22 foot with a 8 foot beam. He is making it to go off shore between Monomoy and Nantucket for King Eiders and also to fish for Tuna south of Block Island. It looks like a Devlin with the bow transom. He has a new 115HO Etec for it, built in 50gal fuel tank and a EZ Loader trailer. His last estimated amount for the build is $28,000 and a year to build.
It's allot of work.

Hey Tom, I considered a Tolman (I have the book if you'd like to borrow it), but ultimately decided on a Devlin Pelicano, 18'CC. Hull is complete, slowly designing-building the inside. Swing by sometime if you'd like to see it. Also building a Devlin cackler mostly from scrap, that was started about a month ago will be done for the season.

Time and money are definite restraints. Try and price a new 20? boat and outboard. Your friends 28k is not a bad deal! Most manufacturers have a year or more wait now with the pandemic. Plus the pride of building it yourself is priceless.

Thanks for the offer Bill. I will have to stop by and look at that Cackler. It may be the push I need to build a Honker. Plus that Pelicano looks like a good build. Talk soon.
Tom

Id suggest getting the Tolman book and read it if for nothing else to see the glass layup on a workboat. The Devlins are designed as pleasure boats for the most part and Tolman's for rougher work like fishing and beach landings, etc...
