Waterfowl Tolling

With air temps in the 100 degree range most days here in N. Central Idaho, I have been taking my Chesapeake on a daily retrieving session in the nearby Clearwater River. The past morning as I threw the dummy for Bella, I noticed a large flock of Canada geese that had been swimming a good 150 yards downstream suddenly swimming toward us and finally milling around only 15-20 yards from Bella in the water. She was so focussed on her retrieving that she ignored them.

My questioned is have any of you used your dog to toll waterfowl?

I haven't used mine specifically to toll but I noticed the geese were very interested in telling my Brittany to screw off (by getting very close to her and honking incessantly) during the closed season. Once September first rolled around and a few of their comrades have fallen, that behavior dramatically changes around here. I assume they associate the dog as the thunder that follow the flash of the boomstick.

No tolling but its normal routine for the geese to swing towards dummy and dog on retrieve at river park I train at. Have had many times flying ducks and geese toll to a dog making a retrieve especially in low light. That motion on water is the attraction i,ll assume.
