Been a great season so far

Been a great season so far
Been out quite a bit this year mostly to familiar places. My favorite spot has really changed the past two years because of silt fill in.

It is getting harder, and almost impossible, to get a boat out to the hunting grounds. And once there, the options of where you can set up a boat are becoming thinner. I have adapted and found a narrow channel (about 4' wide) to get my boat to the places I want to hunt. I can't hunt from the boat anymore and must stash it somewhere where it won't be seen. Here is a pic from last Friday of the new spot. A chair, my hunting bag and a few dekes. That's it. I feel like Al hunting very small water.

Good thing about this place is no one else has ventured back here so I pretty much have the place to myself which is a blessing. On this particular day, I shot a couple of fully mature Green Wing Teal and the rest wre greenheads. Even saw several sandhill cranes buzz by at swatting altitude. About 3 weeks left of this years season. According to the forecast, It may not ice up until very late in the season if at all.

Off again tomorrow morning to continue the string of days in a row out chasing ducks.

That is a great looking spot Mark. Great that you have it to yourself, don't need a big spread, just the essentails.

Mark,

It is good you can continue to get to your spot. Silt is an issue for me as well. Two out of three spots I have used in the past, are now inaccessible due to silting in. The good thing is I still have one area to hunt.

So far, I too, have not seen any other hunters on the days I have been out. I know there is a shore blind which gets hunted on the weekends, but I'm not out on the weekends. Today I have a few pre-winter chores to attend to but probably will go catch a Walleye or two in the afternoon.

Hope you have a good hunt.

It sure looks as if you have found a great little spot out in the middle of nowhere. Good for you, Mark. Is there food in this area or is it for loafing? I would imagine you could sit there for a long while and wonder where the ducks are and then all of a sudden in comes a pair of mallards. I am glad you have this spot, Mark..

What a great looking spot!
Is the bottom hard enough to walk around?

Your season is ending in 3 weeks, ours opens in 3 weeks.
