Look what showed up in the hat box-MLB related
My girls were looking for winter hats to go out sledding with, and this showed up..... somehow it got out of the waterfowl gear and survived way longer than it would have if it hadn't.
Pretty sure this came from the show at Tuckerton when my son was about 4'10"....... and somewhere there is a teeshirt that fit him then. He's over 6'3" now.
This hat brings back some really good memories of late winter hunts and guys here that all came together to talk boats and ducks.
Feel very lucky to still have my diver rig in the rafters in the garage. Some summer work is going to be required to get it back in action for next season.
Looking forward to that temp when epoxy will cure.
Thanks Eric for all the work over the years

Just a few weeks ago I put a Might Layout Boys decal on my truck camper shell. Mark Rongers gave it to me many years ago. Even though the business is gone I like displaying it because it was from a time that holds a lot of great memories.

You know Facebook has groups for duck hunters and Instagram and Youtube have plenty of content for duck hunters. But none of those are communities like what we have here. Just last week Carl and I had to remind someone who joined just to use the classifieds that we are not some place to hawk your stuff. We are a community of friends with a long history of exchanging information, ideas, opinions, and helping each other. If you aren't here for that then just leave, or stick around until you see that it is better.

Like I said before internet forums have fallen behind in popularity to other social media platforms, but we will be the last man standing. In terms of selling out to corporate control I believe we are just that, the last man standing, and I'm kind of proud to say we got it right many years ago and survived.

That is very true Eric,
your page is a bright spot especially when it comes to keeping the editing out of the corporate hand of the big social media pages.
I do keep tabs on your instagram posts (ClayGrinders) but wont go near the FB. That place has some amazing tools for selling, but the BS and the feed style just don't do anything for me. Even instagram, which I enjoyed, is moving away from the original photo based content to video. (I prefer the skill of good photographers). And its way to heavy handed on the feed choices. I enjoy looking through my "followed" list and seeing what people FB ownership doesn't fee I need to see have been up to.
BUT..... for boat and decoy talk this page is still a great resource and I enjoy seeing all the work the regulars have carried on.
In the year ahead I have a few boat projects and if they can get done around work I will show the detail here in tribute to all I learned from each guy that posted a boat along the way.
Decoys are going to have to wait, although I have heard a rumor that a good friend in MA who checks in may have allowed his carving knives to get dusted off so you never know what might happen. My Cape Forge knives are oiled and sharp in the box.
All the best in the new year.
Again thanks for holding the line and keeping the faith.
Funny last note: I hunted as a guest with a good friend and his rig on opening day .......... I smiled in the sunrise thinking of the guys now gone who took part in the back and forth over the years.... good memories on a fine day in the swamp. I blamed my misses on the distraction of Ol Friends. I now understand a bit better why his dad and uncle missed birds on the first time I hunted there over 30 years ago.

Bob,
Your hat got me thinking about the MLB memorabilia that I have. That group together with duckboats have been a staple in my life for 20 years. I went to two or three of the MLB "conventions," gatherings to hunt and share rigs and ideas and meals. The hunting was not so good but the friendships last to this day. I am grateful that duckboats has the stability and tenacity to endure as an old fashioned, ("we use our names newbie, not handles like "CrazyLouie2"), group of old farts and young farts who who enjoy dabbling in boats and decoys and birds.

Here are two of my MLB "artifacts" that have moved with me from Michigan to South Carolina to North Carolina.

God bless all former MLB brothers together with the great group at duckboats.net.

Larry

The photo below from my office is an MLB coffee cup with a Bob Furia Ringneck and a Dave Diefenderfer Coot standing guard. I consider it my MLB and Duckboats shelf.

As noted in Eric's post, I am big brother around here. :)
Didn't work in the referenced situation, we deleted his ad three time, he kept re-posting. Heck two other members even told him to get a clue.

But overall, like everyone has noted, this is one of the finest online communities on the web and has been since 1997.
Sure we've had a squabble or two, had some people quit, some more than once. But overall its a great community.
More like family.

As a educational platform concerning waterfowling, and all that it encompasses. (A very rare thing in today's "Do this. Buy this, if ya wanna be successful.") Duckboats.net stands head and heels above the rest IMO.

Like family ya gotta love em, but ya don't have to like em. Wink

Very cool Bob. Over the summer I found an old Duckboats.net decal in a box from one of the early duckboat.net gatherings that we had here in Lacrosse, WI. It wasn't in any shape to place on my truck though. I thought about having a new decal made from it but then I remembered the pains Eric went through to get permission, so I reluctantly tossed it.

Take care,

that ringer is a real nice bird to have as a reminder. And the coot is too.
I treasure the few birds that I have from guys I met here. I had a number more that I used as donations to dinners or events that meant a lot to me. Seeing where they end up is almost even better.

Ed, I remember that decal and logo discussion. Sure do like the art layout that the original sight logo had.
I finally made the trip to Tuckerton on the reports from guys I met here. It was a highlight for me to see all the boats and rigs. But meeting the people toped even that. A few decoy shows were similar. Traveling Decoy Hunts with members even better.

Looking forward to the off season to put some work toward next year.
