Going To Be Sore

Going To Be Sore
Just got home from having a knee scope and glad to have the procedure behind me. I had the right knee done 4 years ago and know there is going to be some discomfort tonight and tomorrow but I should be back to work and the shop by next week.

So tonight I'm going to sit back and watch the Cardinals and Brewers play and hope Albert hits 698. Has anyone been following his season which will be his last? The guy is 42 years old and since the all start break is the best DH in the National League. The milestones he's hit this year are staggering and pretty much the only guys ahead of him played when photos were black and white or did steroids. What a remarkable career, but also what an honorable and humble person he is. I'm going to miss what he brought to the game. Class and excitement.

Eric,

I could look it up but what is a knee scope?

OK, I looked it up. Holy buckets, 6 week recovery????? I hope my bruised/twisted knee feels better before that time frame. Then again maybe I should drop in and talk with my doctor to see if I should have my knee looked at rather than wait.

What kind of issues were you having, if you don't mind sharing?

I won't be down 6 weeks. I'll be sore until next week and then back to light activity and PT. I stood up one day and had a grinding tearing sensation in my knee. No real pain just something wasn't right. Tore the meniscus. Then about 24 hours later pain set in and it hurt to bend or straighten. My other knee did the exact same thing. I scheduled the surgery for the first opening my surgeon had. Hunting season will not be impacted.

Eric,

I'm assuming a torn meniscus would not otherwise heal itself? I looked that up too. You're making me concerned about my situation. Yesterday I felt pretty good, considering. This morning and today has been a setback. I may have over did my activity yesterday or ?????

At anyrate, hope you have a smooth recovery.

It sounds like the procedure went well, so just rest and heal up. Tough getting old, but not as tough as watching baseball ;). Enjoy your evening and hope the pain isn't too bad.

A speedy recovery to you.

My dad was a life long Cardinals fan, he started listening to games on the radio before WWII. We often watched games together. Even when he was being affected by dementia he could usually keep track of how they were doing. When Albert left the Cards my dad was content with it and said it was fair to let other teams have a chance. I thought he would have done better with the Angels. His first decade was the best 10 years of batting I've even seen.

Since my dad passed away in 2014 I don't think I've watched more than a handful of games...it just isn't the same anymore. I'm pulling for Albert and will have to check out a game or two.

I don't think it will heal on it own, completely, but you can get by without unless it is a really bad tear. Some folks opt for no surgery and live with some popping and discomfort.

I think I'd get someone to look at your knee. No risk in doing so and better to know if you've injured it beyond just needing some time to heal.

They have a fan base that covers a lot of territory due to the fact many many year ago they established a network of radio stations to carry the games. That fanbase persists today. Michelle's dad grew up in MS and was a life-long Cards fan. Up until his death he watched every game. He watched a ton of college baseball too, even played some college ball (pitcher at Mississippi College). George's love of baseball is something we were able to share along with Thomas. I think I'm a lifer when it comes down to it. I bought a big screen TV for the shop and frequently have games on when I'm there.

I think its the most interesting of the big three. The other team can't stall and work the clock to their advantage when ahead. There is no clock. Twenty seven outs for both teams. This means a team has a chance to come back from any deficit. When a team behind on runs comes back and wins after being down to their last strike in the 9th it is EPIC. You must give the other team the same opportunity you got. Plus the participants aren't nearly all freaks of nature height-wise :)
