Early Goose Hunt

Heading up to the St Lawrence Region Friday to get some goose hunting in. Its a trip my youngest son and I take twice a year. Early goose and snow goose. Its more about spending a few days with my hard working boy. But we do enjoy whacking and stacking the birds, But its so nice this time of year hunting in the north east. No heavy clothes and boots. Some days tee shirts and short if you wish. I'm sure our friends down south get to enjoy that a whole lot. We hunt with a guide that we been using for a lot of years. He is part of the family now. We look forward to seeing him and his dad every year. The older I get (63) the more I think I just enjoy the sights and sounds of the trip. We always have had good days hunting. Now getting a ton of bird is different year to year. That's why they call it hunting. But we have never ever not seen a ton of birds. Don't get me wrong down in the Hudson Valley early goose can be great also. But I love the Hudson River and enjoy hunting over floating decoys. And we just have to many little kayakers coming into the bays. Field hunting here is great and a lot of work. To old for that now days. But at one time I hunted everyday of goose season in a field. My point of sharing this was. There is so much more to hunting then the kill. Enjoy what you love! and if your time is up. What a better way to go then doing what you love. Spending time with your son or daughter in the field or boat is one of the good parts. Enjoy the rest of the season.

The early season is a great time to hunt. Like you say, its more comfortable without all thise heavy clothes. I miss hunting geese, Its the "big game" of waterfowling.
