BRITTISH LABS HELP FINDING A REPUTABLE BREEDER IN THE MID ATLANTIC OR ANYWHERE FOR THAT MATTER
I'm looking for any information or quite honestly anything at this time that will help me find a reputable British lab breeder in my area. I was lucky for a long time, not to having to look into this. But unfortunately, I have to now. 14 years ago, I found my dog at a breeder in NJ, called magnolia creek British Labradors. They breed British labs that came from the drakeshead lineage in the Uk. Since my dogs passing, I have exhausted all possible means of trying to reach out to Jim Mascola, hoping that he could help me in finding my next dog. I can only assume he no longer breeds labs. I have even reach out to john and Sandra Halstead of drakeshead to see if they could steer me in the right direction. So now I'm kind of stuck in limbo trying to find a breeder that doesn't have a 2 year wait list and that isn't halfway across the country or in the UK. I'm sure this is the new norm these days, less breeder and most are out in the Midwest. Like I said I haven't needed to do this for a long time. If anyone has any info on where I might be able to look I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance

Chester,

I can't help you with your area, but I have a deposit down on a pup with Tallgrass Kennels out of Arkansas. Kiply has been incredibly helpful for me and very responsive. I am not sure on the "backlog" of puppies she may have so it may not work for you timewise. However, she might have an idea on who in your area of the country is breeding quality British Labs. I know she has a few started dogs available right now, if you are looking for a female.

Tallgrass Kennels offering British Labrador Retrievers, British Labrador retriever breeders, trainers of british labs, british lab

Good luck in your search

Hi Chester,

I'll PM you a phone number of a good friend of mine, his name is Dave Burton. I got my American lab, Pearl from him. I know you're looking for British. Dave now runs a part time transport business for trainers at hunt test events all over the U.S. bringing out dogs and bringing other dogs back for owners. He also has a great eye for talented dogs and the connections to many kennels. His business is called "Door 2 Door Dog Transport" if you're on FB. It might be worth a call to him to see if he knows of any litters on the ground or upcoming. He could also be an avenue for you if you found a pup but needed a way to transport if you weren't able to go yourself. Just a thought. Good luck in your search.

I put in a deposit for a started pup. As much as I would like a puppy, my current work and living situation would be impractical and unfair for a puppy. If I were going to get a puppy, I could have picked one up this month. When I put my deposit down, I anticipated next spring likely after turkey season for picking up my pup. He will be in the 6-8 month old range. I think I am still on track for that. If I wanted a female, I would have pick of about 5 that are ready to go now. But I really want a male, though one of the girls is a gorgeous one I have strongly considered.

I can see going with a started dog. Those early months sure do take a lot of time and I think you are wise to go that route. Pretty exciting! Share some pics when you make your choice.

Hi Chester, I just got a dog through Capt Tom Cornicelli from Ireland Corrib Gundogs. I would reach out to him if you are on the search. She has been a great addition to our family and a wonderfully calm partner on the boat at just 3 months old! With the strong dollar i paid the same as what i would have paid here.

Hi Chester-does this dog look familiar? This was mine (Rose), she just died a couple of weeks ago just a few months shy of 15. She would have been from the litter prior to yours. I sent you a message in regard, you can get back to me if there is anything in it you want to follow up on.
Rose was as fine a dog as I will ever have.

I bought a dog from Duckhill kennel in Tennessee. I'm in south Jersey so they trained the dog till he was 4 months old and shipped him to Philly airport. He has been a great dog. I named him zeke and he's a English lab he's only 1.5 years old and Saturday will be his first duck hunt. He has done some pheasant and chukar for training and I hope this yeah to kill wood cock. He even points and holds very well. That is something I didn't train he just naturally did it. He has a great nose and great disposition.

Josh-I have admired Robert Milner for many years, and followed much of his training regimen. Is he still active there? He has an excellent reputation and I would not hesitate to get a dog from Duckhill.

Mr. Milner was still alive when I purchased the dog but it seems his son has taken over. My dog is fro duck hill Duke and Duckhill eclipse. They were great to deal with and the price wasn't bad. I have a deposit at Wildrose still and they want 3000 for a puppy. I paid 1800 plus shipping at Duckhill.

I believe that Milner started Wild Rose and sold it, then later started Duckhill. I am not up on pedigrees and such, but if I had a dog I really liked, I would be returning to the same place. Which is why Chester started the thread. Sounds to me like you've found that place.

Yes everything you said was correct Milner sold it to Wildrose and I am very happy. My dog was 4 months when I got him and very easy to handle. He was very bold climbed ladders into kids play house went up down stairs and retrieved water and land. He had a nice delivery and natural hold.
