Has anybody used the plastic V boards they sell the one where you use your own silhouettes on?

The only ones I've seen are made by Sitting Ducks Ltd.. I was thinking making some Brant silhouettes for them. The only ones I've seen were on Ebay so I don't know what they sell for in a store. So my question are what are they worth, will the they hold up to the salt water, and would they be worth the effort or will they not float good enough or will I just be wasting my time and money?

They are to easy & fun to make (IMO), so why buy them???

Phil,
Yes they will hold up.
There are 3 different types of plastic used in the production. The post the silo attaches to accepts paint well and accepts screws well the body or arms that float can take a lot of banging around and if shot can be foam filled. The stress points are made from the same plastic that is in your freezer so it will not break in the cold.
a piece of 12" x 24 " luan is about the max size you will wont to cut your silo from. 16 V-boards that size fit in a FA wide mouth decoy bag easily. There is a locking pin so the board will not collapse, on oversize silos its best to pull the pin out while the board is still floating so there is less tourque on the locking pin.
The biggest weakness is the Stainless steel cable that holds the locking pin. When mine wear out I replace them with weed eater line. They will increase the visability of your rig since the silo's are such a high profile.
Hope this was helpful.

Jason, having a fair year on birds but a lot of fun going out.No Brant this year. Went once and thing were real slow.

Phil, Heres what I did,Using 8'footer 2 by 4's I cut them inhalf length ways ,then in 32" pc's,I center lined and marked the length of silo, then set my table saw { using a da do blade} for at least 3/4" depth to cut out the pocket to receive the silo width, silos are made up of beer adds signes{plastic corrogated type like cardboard} begining about 1&1/2"s from the nose of said board. Note the signs can be obtained from your local liquer store by asking to save them for you.after setting the silos into the board I drill two holes all the way thru{board and silo and board} the size of wood dowell pins bought at A C Moores arts and craft store, are incerted one forward the other aft this will hold them securely and if need be can be pushed - out with a center punch for a replacement if damaged. For the hinge plates a friend of mine gets me scrap left over roll stock the type used to make alluminum gutters, you might have to buy this, cut pieces .are 9" long x 4 1/2' wide cut off the corners a 45 degrees for safety ,cuts are 1&1/in4 "s then I bend the plates to form a u -shape in a vise making sure the heal pocket is 1&1/2 "s wide to receive the legs of v-board. the center board requires two zinc nuts and bolts to keep secure leg in position, for the outer legs the portion that goes into the plate has to be 180 degrees rounded off for out ward swing these legs only require 1 nut and bolt. before drilling the two outer legs spread them out to the -y- position to find the proper place to drill the final holes . You now have your first template for mass production. If you like I can mail you a plastic replica of the hinge plate the rest is simple. Hope this helps. I made some for Brant and some for snow geese they all work fine especialy the Brant ones.I have 8 or 9 of each which Iuse at Rehoubeth bay for weights i use the horseshoe type.P.S. almost forgot the silos can be cut on your band -saw 4 or more at atime then rough up the surface with a sponge pad prime with plastic spray paint krylon . Don't for get to paint the wood also. Good luck Cas
