blew off work and went out on a party boat (Double Eagle) 8 hour trip out of Clearwater yesterday. Kept over 40 grunts and porgies, threw back at least 5 short red grouper and 2 short mangrove snappers. Tossed back some small grunts and tomtates too. Lost a huge Spanish Mac at the boat, was only hit on a flat line all day.
Fun day and I didn't have to drive or clean the boat.
Spinning tackle, light rigs and live shrimp are the key. I used a 6500 series rod with 25# line, 3/0 hooks and a 2oz sinker. Outfished everyone else on the boat.
Middle stringer is mine.

Yep, sure was. Really light load on the boat helped. They can fish 75 but there were only 20 of us. I had the port stern corner with plenty of room.

Carl, I have done enough head boat fishing to know that is a prime spot on the rail. [wink]

I went out yesterday myself but only caught two walleye, one released and one kept. The weather radar lied to me, telling me the storm was going to pass by north of my location. So, I gathered my things and launched in my local river. I had barely wet my line when the first walleye hit, a small male which I released. Lowered the worm harness back down into the current and it wasn't long before I felt the tap of another bite.
This was a much better walleye. It stayed down and did not want to be brought to the net. The number on it were 25 inches in length and 4 lbs. in weight. A prime male as confirmed on the cleaning board.

I had only been fishing about ten minutes but already the weather was changing. The overcast clouds were turning darker by the second, the winds were increasing and the temperature was dropping. Time to beat feet back to the ramp, just as a few light sprinkles began to hit the water. Made it to within 200 yards of the ramp when it began pouring buckets of rain.

Even though is was an abbreviated trip, I was happy camper.

That is one stud walleye!! My best walleye ever was just a little smaller, on a tipup back in 1982 or so.

Dang y'all!!! Some nice fish there!

You have a fish fry scheduled Carl??
