I'm a "newbie" on this forum, and hope i can get some help without stepping on any toes!!
Just curious as to how other hunters do "shot-hole" repairs to plastic decoys. Specifically "Carry-Lites". I tried some silicone marine sealant, but have no idea how this will stand up over time!
Any suggestions will be appreciated!

buy new ones. seriously.. it isn't worth the time and effort. what you've done will work for long enough, but it's easier just to buy new ones and quit shooting them up! whatever you do, don't listen to the jackalopes that say to use "great stuff" foam.

I use Goop but any sealant like you mentioned will work. By the way, members of this forum typically use their real names when posting.

OK thats one heck of a long link if it doesn't work they are called "Hot Buy" under the decoy section. They are just reg size but they work.

     Okay guys, The decoys in question aren't mine, I fixed 'em for a buddy. The holes look like 6's, and I have NEVER used 6's for ducks!!!
Bill, I just received an order of 12 of those Mallard decoys from Cabela's along with a dozen Goldeneyes and a dozen Woodies............lost my head! They look pretty nice for something made in China!
Thanks for all the help! I try not to take them quackers while they are too close to the dekes!
BTW, if any of you ain't had a bowl of hot, Jackalope stew and some sourdough bread, ya don't know what you're missin'!!! LOL!

The only thing that I didn't like about the "Hot Buy" Decoys was that there is no clip on the bottom of the keel to secure the anchor line to and keep the extra line in place. So you have to go with a shorter line and use all of it or as I did put bungee cord elastics around the keel. But ya they looked very realistic for such an inexpensive decoy. Good way to fill out your decoy spread with out breaking the bank.

Both work great. Make sure to clean the plastic well. Both work well but usually the patch only lasts a season or two.


Another trick is hotglue. You have drill the holes out a little and make sure that it runs inside the decoys. Then wet your finger and press down on it to mushroom the outside glue and quick cool it.

Don't let the lack of responses or "buy new ones" responses fool your. Most guys on the site use plastics & have probably fixed a lot of plastics. It's all I use.

Yep..I've fixed a few. Drill a hole where the duck poops...about a 1/4" will do..get all the water out of it and then use cheap caulk or hot glue to fill the BB holes. I tried spray foam once and it turned the deke into a football..plus it ended up costing as much as several new dekes.
