Real Names - One More Time
Those that have been here for any length of time know that it is a requirement that you use your real name, or close variant. At one time we had open registration but that ended when people didn't read the rule at sign-up and registered with web handles instead of their real name. Once the registration process started only those using real names were validated. Roughly 1/2 were never validated for not reading/following the rule. Recently we made a change to the sign-up form which brought the rule to attention better and greatly reduced rejected registrations. However, after doing that some folks have taken to modifying their accounts AFTER they are onboard. Unacceptable. I have contacted numerous folks about this and it usually is unpleasant. I've been challenged, insulted, and ignored. Enough is enough. We are now going to a zero tolerance policy. After one warning accounts will be deleted for violating the rule. I'm giving one warning for the benefit of someone who signed up before the rule was placed in effect and wasn't aware. If you see someone in violation please direct them to this post. This rule is not up for debate. Below are examples of what is acceptable and what is not. If you want to associate a screen name you use at other sites here then edit your profile and place it in your signature.

John David Doe (Acceptable)
John D (Acceptable)
J Doe (Acceptable)
JDD (Acceptable but not very friendly)
Idaho John (Acceptable)

Duckwhacker (NOT Acceptable)
DuckGod (NOT Acceptable)
AutoLoader (NOT Acceptable)
Big Woody (Not Acceptable unless your name actually is Woody)
I could go on forever but hopefully you get the picture.

Finally, to those of you that find this rule objectionable or want to challenge it, don't. Not trying to be rude or insulting but you should choose another online waterfowling community. We have our own way of doing things. If it's not to your liking or makes you uncomfortable I encourage you to find a community with rules more to your tastes.

I have met people on this site and I have met people from other sites...when you get together it is hard on others to try and remember that Quackerstackerduckguts name is really Antoine or Percy. I see this forum as a bunch of guys that strive to actually get together and hunt and have fun..not a bunch of wannabee's.

Here I was, ready to change my screen name to FlockNockerLoveByTheLadies3ShotsBang-BangUrDeadMallardMasher. Guess I'll just stick with boring old "Nate."

Happy Friday!

I think it is a great policy and wish it would be adopted more sites. Keeps more people honest!!

And I'll add that because of this requirement, I've never seen an avatar here that I couldn't let my kids see. Man some sites out there are down right embarrassing not to mention just plain skanky. To think the guys using them are proud of that!

Thanks Eric. Good rule. I kinda miss Wicker T but this makes a lot of sense.

Eric,

What are the degrees of freedom?

Titan will be upset if I have to drop him from my "handle". Nobody wants to upset a fat chocolate lab in the off season. He's fat and grumpy...

Oh wait, that's me...

Is mine close enough?

We have no problems whatsoever with having your dog's name alongside your own. I thought Titan was your wife :)

I often wonder why people don,t use there name on a site like this. Is it acase of self importance or is it that they think everyone is looking for them? Hmmmmm

my nickname in the community is swampfox always has been always will be. BUT, due to the fact of the rules, I complied and must say it was the best thing I've done online. It is a alot cleaner atmosphere here than any of the other sites i frequent. And the people are better too.

Eric, bring the hammer down. It's your site....I have always been a supporter of the "real names only" rule.

YAA, drop the hammer Eric is right. Real names is like when they have a video camera trained on the strikers, everyone tends to behave a little better knowing that their actions will be called to account at a later date in time. Not that I'm against the right to strike however I've seen some pretty reasonable people do some dumb things when they thought no one was looking. Anyway the calibre of conversation on Duck Boats is hands down the highest of all the BB's that I frequent. It's a good rule and I have advocated it on other sites.

Well, I do miss some of the finer avatar photos\movies that I have seen on the net and I do miss trying to figure out who SmackAndWackAQuack is every time I get to meet a fellow hunter at the ramp, BUT......OK. Can we please have the dumb smiley faces???????? so I know when I am supposed to think something is funny.
And to think, I was just going to change my name to DucksDieForMeAndSoDoTheLadies!

I like the real name Idea just cause I don't have the creativity to come up with a good handle.

Tim

At the top of the scren click "Edit Profile" and then on "User Profile". I'm fine with Bomber since it's part of your real name and a nickname not just some screen name.

For the record

A user account was deleted today for viloation of this rule. It's not the first time and probably not the last. The straw that broke the camels back was the "nameless" individual challenged the rule and was sarcastic towards requests to comply. Rest assured if you want to be deleted that is a sure fire way. Ask for it, literally, and we will be more than happy to comply with any request to be banned. Admitedly my patience have grown thin with folks who thumb their nose at me and the site rule and I won't waste one second ridding them from my site. My time is in very short supply and I refuse to waste any of it on someone who seeks the benefits this site has to offer but won't give me courtesy.
