Here ya go Dave..Finished

Did you "card" it with 4/0 steel wool? Will it darken down?
lEE,i DID.tHIS WAS THE SECOND ATTEMPT AS THERE WERE BLOTCHES SHOWING THROUGH AND I HADE TO GO AFTER IT WITH 100 AND 240 GRIT BEFORE REAPPLYING.dON'T THINK IT WILL DARKEN ,BUT MAY GIVE IT ANOTHER COAT.I'M HAPPY WITH IT FOR THE TIME BEING.

WIS BOZ,I WOULD CALL IT NIKEL PLATED.IT'S NOT AS BRIGHT AS COIN FINISH AND NOT MATTE LIKE FRENCH GREY,(MY PREFFERENCE).I WILL TRY TO DARKEN/DULL IT SOME AND, EVENTUALLY, MAY HAVE THE ACTION AIRBRUSHED WITH KG COATING,IN GUN METAL BLUE.

Mike, the barrels are fluid steel, and yes you want the pattern to show through. That's the beauty of it.Long after fluid or ordanance steel was offered, many buyers still wanted damascas, because of the beautiful patterns they showed.Saw a few guns with a faus damascas ,on fluid steel, for the looks.See Dave's post from last week.

To me it's fine the way it is now, but in the past I have browned some of my Hawken rifles & pistols with 3-4 heavy coats until they came out looking nearly as dark as a semi-sweet chocolate bar.

I going to re-brown my 1830's 16 ga. next week, it could use another browning job. And I may give the L.C. another coat as well.

Dave
