(Pics) Some nice birds...

... I had a small group of cork ringers set out on Tuesday when I went down to the River to take pictures and took some pics of these decoys before picking up for the day. These birds first show up in my hunting pictures during the 2001-02 season so they have been used for seven seasons to date.

This group of eight decoys ( 6 drakes/2hens) are some of my favorites because they all seem to catch the essence of the "tuxedo duck." Nothing like the sound of tearing silk when a group of the real things rockets over from behind the boat-blind, puts on the brakes, and hooks back in.

Enjoy!

Bob,

Those ringers look completely out of place. We all know that there are very few if any ring necks in your flyway. So with the thought of those decoys actually needing real birds to respond, I'd be willing to help you out with that problem and place them in an appropriate location out here on the Columbia. Just an offer.

They look great and I know they've fooled lots of birds and will in this next season. Great work.

MLBob,

Your low heads really catch the "smugness" of a content bird. It's like I can see the laziness in their eyes. It's no wonder birds would want to take a rest with them. Very nice!

Bob,

Hope you know I'm just yankin your chain on that. I know full well the central flyway has tons more ring necks or blackjhacks eh, than we do out here. If you want to venture out here for a hunt I think we could arrange a few birds for you. Heck, might be able to get that Sutton guy, where he from? Seattle? to join us for some story telling and brewskies. There some other guys out here that may join up also.

But ya gotta bring some of them decoys of yours.

Wow Bob !

Those dekes look like the real thing. We get a lot of ringnecks around here and you and your dekes are welcome anytime.

Wonder if Greenhead gear would give you a ton of money to use them as mold plugs ?

Thanks for sharing the art,
Harry

Nice pic with the SKB Bob.I had forgotten about that model.A 280,isn't it?Don't think they offered them with two triggers.

I'd be willing to listen, but I doubt Greenhead Gear is into giving anyone "tons" of money ( more likely taking in tons of $$). A few bucks to Chinese "craftsmen" mebby.

I wonder though..........would Steve & Eric then allow me to have a "Pro-Staffer" designation on my avatar???

Joe-
That is a 280 SE (straight English stock) Only one trigger there. Shell may give the illision of two? Best $300 field SxS ever made (Of course that was 1970).

Bob,it was a good value even then.I knew it wasn't a double trigger.I still have a Model 600 o/u,20ga skeet I bought new in 74 for 300.Last year I sent it back to SKB and had the trigger group replaced and action rebuilt for 465.

Ya know Bob, I'm still working on that ringbill you sent me the plans for. What was it, 2 years ago or 3? The head came out really nice on the first attempt. Tail will require some filler but it is on the correct end of the bird.

This is the one I am making out of balsa with the bass wood head.
