Salt marsh

Couldn't decide where to go this morning since its been pretty slow around here. Got up and the wind wasn't to bad so I decided to head out over some big water to a marsh for some puddle ducks. Reached my destination without any problems and set up. Finally got everything straight and comfortable in the boat and waited for light. Then the wind started to pick up and I started wondering if this had been a bad call on my part. A few birds started moving and we had 5 blackducks pitch in. The dog started whining for me to shoot and they swam off. She hadn't been out in nearly two weeks and was ready for some work. Shooting time came and a flock of 3 blackducks came by, picked one out and dropped it. Then we played blackduck or mallard for a while. At one point we had a flock of ~25 blackducks locked up and hanging in the wind. They circled three more times before pitching 60 yrds from us. The only big ducks that gave us shot were blackducks. I picked up and headed out into the river to see it covered by white horses. Besides a little spray and a slow ride back my bluebill handled great. I'm just glad the tide and wind were together for the most part, otherwise I would have been up that creek...

Nope, I was over on the mobjack side, ware river/mobjack. Hunted divers yesterday on the ware out of the blind north of the artificial oyster reef. Didn't see any bluebills, redheads or cans. Ended up with 5 buffleheads and 2 scoters. A few flocks of geese were trading back and forth from ware neck to the fields near naxera. -j
