NDR... President Ford....

Sorry this isn't duck boat related, but I just had to share....

I was in elementary school when Ford was President of the U.S. of A. While I remember the Nixon era, it was the Ford era that I truly had a grasp of what is a "Nation" or "Country". Or, that I was a part of the United States of America... So Pres. Ford has always been linked to that in my mind....

Anywho, some of you here may recall that I currently reside with my wife and kids near Grand Rapids, MI., the hometown, and soon to be final resting place of G. R. Ford. 38th POTUS.

Last night my wife and I took our oldest daughter (6 years old) and we stood in line for nearly 5 hours (8:30pm to 1:15am) in order to pay our respects, and walk past the President's casket as it was lying in Repose, here at his Presidential Museum.

It was a cold and long walk of over 4 miles, but my daughter didn't complain, nor did anyone in line, that I could hear... It was an amazing sight to see that many people in line waiting, just to get their chance for a 3 second glimpse, and walk slowly by, in complete stone silence, in front of the casket.

I'm not sure I could have made it through that long walk/wait if I had gone alone, but I was happy to be there with my wife and our daughter. I'm pretty sure she will remember this when she gets older. The color guard and the flag draped casket was a pretty powerful image....

God Bless the USA!

Best.

He was the first president that I voted for. I've been watching all the news and biographies of him and forgot how truly great and humble a man he was, considering the media of the times painted him a bungling fool.He had a monumental task of healing a nation torn by scandal and war. I've been to his museum several times and will go again.

Hi I was born and raised in Grand Rapids and peddled papers to the Fords house on Union Street. They were fine people!! Bob H
