Zack Taylor

Just got my book I ordered from Amazon. Zack Taylor's "Successful Waterfowling" YOO HOO!!!!. Boat designs, Tips, all the good stuff!!!! I saw ya'll talking about it for long enough and finally got it. One more thing, when some hard headed new guy (like myself) ask for plans and whatnot point him to this book until it sinks in. I hope I have finally got my first build; the "Widgeon". Unless ya'll think it's to difficult for a first build of course. Because; "When the members of Duckboats.net speak, Greenhorns better listen." Thanks Guys!

Great read!

I built a "Widgeon" several years ago. I'm planning on building another later this summer.

I can probably give you a few pointers.

Good luck.

Robert,

Just a thought, but Zack Taylor's book was written several decades ago, and you may want to consider stitch and glue (like a Devlin design or one of the other companies selling plans). Believe they are easier to build, with the results lighter and more durable.

Having said that, I enjoy his book and boat plans, and have considered building his hunting jon-boat using more modern building techniques to serve as a lighter, more draggable boat than my Devlin Broadbill (the Broadbill was my first build, and as such, is a bit heavier than it should have been) .

Good luck with your decision!

Dear Robert,

Good luck with your build! I believe that you will accomplish your task.

And most important, what an incredible boat you will wind up with! I have owned one for 32 years, and in that time, I have shot a lot of ducks and geese from it, to include catching my fair share of Lake Michigan Cohos, Brown Trout, and Yellow Perch out of it.

A finer boat for rowing I have never found. Put a pair of light ash 7' oars on her, and you will be amazed.

Lastly, as we have a contract with Zack Taylor to build his boats, I am very proud to say that I know him, and can call him friend. Though his health is ailing, he is still with us, and provided us with a wonderful book, not to mention 31 years as Sports Afield's Boating Editor, and the sole person responsible for amassing all of Gordon MacQuarrie's stories into 4 great books.

Have fun, and God Bless!

Mark

By the way, the book I received is signed by Mr. Taylor which is something that I'll keep coming from such a great writer and historian of a sport I love so much.

I have worn out the spine on my copy from reading it so much. If you have a signed copy, you may want to get another one to wear out instead.

Maybe now..
