Zip-up Waders

Has anyone had any experience with zip up waders? The convenience of a zipper is obvious but it seems like they would be more likely to start leaking. I need to purchase some new ones and want to invest in some good ones instead of my usual base price specials that last a season.

i have a pair from cabelas no leaks 2 seasons but they dont offer them anymore so maybe they had problems,if i get a leak ill just go to a dive shop and get them to put a proper one in

I have the Cabelas zipper 5mm waders, 3 seasons no problems and love the ability to take a leak without disrobing.
The zippers are the same as the dry suits (dive) that I have. Waterproof zippers have been arounf for years and have a very good reputation for sealing out water, the waders will fail before a well maintained zipper.

As Major said, the waders will fail before the zipper. I have an original uni-suit dry suit . The zipper is still going strong after 25+ years. You just need to take care of it. Wash off with fresh water if you use the waders in brackish or salt water. Coat once in awhile with bees wax. On the other hand , if you are the type that puts holes in the boots or neoprene on your regular waders every year, expect the same with these as well.
