I took my gwp to the shooting preserve yesterday and we hunted pretty hard for the first time out. When I got home and took him out of the kennel he was limping around - holding up his rear left foot. I inspected his foot and pad it looks good but when I rubbed his leg and he started to growl a little so I quit messing with it. I watched him last night he kinda started walking on then before I went to bed I let him out and he was holding it up again. I got up took him out he seem ok 4 hours later he's favoring / limping that leg again what do you guy think-
thanks

Rob, Hope your partner is feeling better, I don't have any insight to the problem, just want you to know were pullin for him.

I still have no idea what is wrong -he seems to be using both legs and moving around fine now may be just a sprain or strain

I meant to post the other day. I am not vet but I had the same thing happen to my shorthair. After a very long day of hunting pheasants we were on our way back to the truck and I heard him yelp and was only about 10 yards ahead of me. Right away I think the worst, snake, bees nest, trap anything. Well he came back to me limping, more like walking on 3 legs. Having no idea what just happened i searched the area and found nothing. So, luckily I had a regular vet visit the next day. Get him there, still hobbling around the vet checked that first and determined it was just a hard strain on his hip. She said from being tired they get sloppy and arent as nimble and might have stepped on a rock or slipped into a grounhog hole and strained his hip. A few days later he was ok. Hopefully this is all your buddy got but sounds similar to mine.

How about you take him to the vet, they might know.

Sure it could be a sprain, but after checking his foot carefully and he is still favoring it the next day,GET HIM TO THE VET.

That's how Pretzle started out when we were on vacation in late August.
It turned out to be a tear in her ACL.
I hope I'm wrong ,but if it persists,I'd get her into the vet asap

I got plenty of good advice on ACL issues on this site and another site
Good luck
Tom
