Everyone has to have taken, or been in a picture that just sums it all up for you. I've got a few I'm deciding between, but will post it once I make my decision. How about you?

Favorite picture.......that's a toughie. But, when I read it, this is the first picture that popped into my head. It IS one of my favorites. This is my son, Patrick, (25 yr. old and works full time with me, making decoys). This was during the Thanksgiving Holiday time 2000 down in Uvalde, TX (9200 acre ranch down there affiliated with us). Patrick & I were out getting things set up on one of the Sanderas (sp?) for a wild area dove hunt (thus the Milo). We had the run of the place and were having a ball. We found some old black top (that's cuz I couldn't spell asphalt) ;) cars and were roaming though them. Turns out that this area of Uvalde is the Country's only known deposit of natural asphault. This mine closed in '64 but other mines (Vulcan) are still producing. The oil percolates up through the coral and creates asphault. The dig it out of the ground, grind it up to customer specs & roll it down on the roads.
Anyhow...........this trip, with Patrick, was one of my most memorable and favorite times with him. We were away from home and spending time with each other. I taught him to drive a stick floor shift and he had a ball. They name all their vehicles down there and this jeep was named: Wahaka..... I'll let you google what it means.
What a great time with a great son.
Lou

It's hard finding a favorite pic but this one of them. Brings back memories of a day spent in the marsh. This was the day Boomer wasn't going to let a duck get away and dove under the water to get it. It astonished both me and my partner when the dog was just by a cripple and the duck dove and Boomer and the duck disappeared. What seemed like an eternity up came Boomer with the duck. I miss that dog.View attachment boomer3e.JPG

... always looking to make my escape.
Whether it be ducks, upland birds or just hitting the bush with dog and shotgun. I can never seem to get enough.

Probably my favorite of my two old guys and a young Alex. Gus wasn't born yet and Kimo has passed away a few years earlier. Cody is gone now, he was a hell of a dog.

heres one of my favorites, its my yellow lab Earl bringing me a big old bull pintail. My cousin took the picture from the boat blind without me knowing. I didnt see it for a few months and thought it was so cool looking. I put a lot of blood sweat and frayed nerves into Earl. I work with him all the time to make moments like this happen.

This was the last day of the season last year and what proved to be my Chessie's last bird. The drive and desire in this pic epitomizes this dog's life. She influenced my life in a number of ways from the path I've taken in my profession to where I currently reside:

First of all, Joe that is an awesome photo.

Here is one from a few years ago. Nothing that special but it is one of those days you just remember. I'm pretty sure my brother in law took this picture, it is me and my nephew picking up decoys on a snowy morning that I don't believe we got much on. I like days like that when it is just cold enough to snow and you get big heavy flakes. My nephew's lab went running along the shoreline about that time grabbing snow flakes.

This one was pretty much the high point of this season. My Grandpa's old M12 20ga, a couple bills, Kota and the lake in the background made a nice picture.

It is a wheelchair. Emma was diagnosed with degenerative myelopathy, one of the first in the breed, unfortunately, and she proved to be crucial in helping develop the test that is now available. The disease is very similar to Lou Gehrig's disease in humans with the spinal cord essentially dying off from back to front.

I had her to multiple neurologists and orthopedic surgeons as we were trying to figure out what was ailing her very early in the course of the disease. I lost the 2006 season with her because we initially thought it was a disc issue and strict exercise restrictions were the treatment of choice. When we finally got to the bottom of it, and realized the lack of hunting was doing her no good I promised to hunt the hell out of her in 2007. With the help from the folks at doggonwheels we fitted her for a cart to hunt out of and gave it a go.

The first bird was a sharptail:

And then a rooster:

And we ended the season with the trifecta of the prairie chicken in the first picture. All were 100% wild birds which was very important to me for her. We tried a number of waterfowl hunts that just didn't pan out. This was an early season pass shoot:

And finally from one of the last attempts at a snow goose this spring:

Sorry to highjack the thread with pictures of her...we're in the middle of a blizzard and I just happened to be in a reflective mood.

Thanks for taking a look.

Incredible story Joe. I never take one day for granted hunting with my water Spaniel (River). I can't imagine going through what you did with your dog. Thanks for the explanation. I will never forget your story.

Joe, Wonderful story, thanks for sharing. Non dog owners wouldn't get it but we here do!!
Steve, Thanks for fixing my picture, looks like I need to study some more. I got only part of the puzzle figured out.

Joe, that is one incredible picture! Just had a 4 year old husky diagnosed @ MU 2 weeks ago. Hope all is well....
