BBIII and surface drive motors

I'm sure this has been asked or tried even. I have a BBIII that has a 25 hp outboard on it now works fine. But was wondering how the new mud motors not the long shafts but the surface drive ones would work on the BBIII. Can't get in the real shallow stuff now.

The biggest issue is the weight of the new mud motors. They are much heavier than what the BB3 was designed for with a 2-stroke outboard. There also is the motor well to deal with. Outboard props are below the sponsons on the sides so a surface drive will hit them and you won't be able to turn. To use a surface motor you will have to build a new transom, or a bracket, on the boat and do away with the motor well.

For the weight issues Mud Buddy has come to your aid with their new Hyper Drive light motors. These motors are bare bones and I think either the 14HP or the 18HP one would be just lite enough to work on a well built BB3 that has a transom moved all the way back to the stern.
