Sneakboats used as layout boats...

Do any of you guys with sneakboats use them as a layout boat without a tender boat? I am looking at buying either a layout and a tender or possibly (to make the wife happy) just a sneak boat similar to a ZT Widgeon or BBSB.

I like the sneak boat idea, but where I hunt really want to use it more as a layout without a tender if possible. I do have a lab, but she has some training to undergo yet. Is there an efficient manner to anchor the sneakboat in the middle of the spread and release it when necessary to retrieve ducks?

I was really hoping to build a boat on my own, which may still be an option, but I’m not sure if I can squeeze it in this summer or not.

Thanks,
Steve

Steve, I've anchored in shallow bays before. I just left the sneakbox grassed up. The divers never seem to mind but the blackies are too smart to fall for it. The dog made the retrieves so I did not need to pull anchor..............Kevin

I use an MLB ZT as a one-man layout/tender, and it works like magic. I can rig 50+ decoys from it by myself and it handles Erie very well. I anchor the bow line with a painter, which pulls me up to the buoy, so I can cleat the painter. The stern anchor is also buoyed w/ a painter, so it can hook to the bow anchor when i get free of the anchors. Get Zach Taylor's book Successful Waterfowling and it will give you a bunch of insight into how to use the boat.

Just getting ready to order one of Mr. Taylors books...which one is the question? I have found 3 different versions published in 1975, 1981 & 1989. I'm sure they are all basically the same, but are any of them better than the other?
