You Michigan guys must see these everywhere in the winter.

Pretty cool. I wonder why they never went into production.

My dad had an International Cub tractor that came with the house and farm he bought when he first got married to my mom. It looked a lot like the tractor in the video.

That thing was honkin cool. I sent it on to my little brother. He is a tractor nut who lives in the middle of a city (South Bend Ind.) about five minutes from the campus of Notre Dame. He has a cub he restored in his garage and a second one he is still working on.
He fires the old girl up and gives rides around his neighborhood. The cub was the last tracotr we had on the old family farm before my grandma had to shut her down and sell off. So we have a soft spot for it.

You know, in all of my years in Michigan, I have driven every kind of snowmobile, Thiokol Sprite and Packmaster, Pisten-Bullies, Tucker Sno-Cats, Nodwells...you name, I have driven it.

I have NEVER seen or heard of this contraption anywhere...I just wonder why they weren't built and modified for military wintertime use in Europe during WWII. Looks like it could haul gear while its haulin' a$$

My dad sold off his Cub a few years ago. He spent more time fixing it then using it. It had all the gear we needed on our little pretend farm; a 10' side mower, hay rake, and a center mount snow plow. When I was a kid we used to get to drive it through town on dump runs. He offered to ship it to me up here COD, but I had to decline.

I was wondering the same thing about war time applications, especially in mud that thing would have worked better than a tank.

Did you notice the dude doing the demo was wearing a suit and tie? I never saw a farmer drive a tractor with a tie on!

The only thing that would be tricky to make yourself would be the skid steer gear box that looks like it runs off the power take off. The cylinders would be an interesting welding project too I guess. OK, all I could make would be the articulating channel iron beam at the front, if I had help.

Yep, neat machine.

I've never heard of it either. That thing is cool as hell. With some modern updates like drive shafts and cv joints etc I'll bet it would be very reliable. I'm kind of amazed that it never took off.

Saw some thing like that on Discovery channel ? A more modern version going through a marsh. It could float and go on land.

That is pretty cool.

There were two adventurers from Europe that were circumnavitgating the globe and part of their trip was to cross the Bering Straights to Siberia from the Alaska side using a gizmo much like this rig. It didn't work out. They had a hard time with the floe ice and the chop. I think there were some hydraulic issues as well. http://www.autoblog.com/tag/Snowbird+6/
