Wood duck box question

I wondered about heat too. I assume they wouldn't come to one that was left stark white.

When I saw a pair of wood ducks WAY up in a maple tree madfe me think "these guys will nest ANYWHERE they can find a spot"

Plans for traditional wooden boxes are readily available. Does anyone have info on making a wood duck nesting box out of PVC? Seems like it would be pretty easy to do.

Last spring walking the dogs I saw a couple smallish birds up fairly high in a maple tree. Wondered what they were. Turned out to be a pair of wood ducks. I guess they were looking for a nesting hole. The tree was at least a quarter mile from any water.

Don't know where you are located but you might have concerns about the box getting too hot if you used pvc. Check out the Maryland Wood Duck Initiative website; http://mwdi.net/mwdi/index.asp. Cliff Brown with MWDI is about a knowledgeable a person as there is when it comes to wood duck boxes.
