I am 29. I live, hunt and fish in southeast SD.
I have hunted duck since I was 12.
I was lucky to have a father and older brother that took me hunting when I was young. I still duck hunt mostly with my dad.
The second bird I shot with a shotgun was a blue wing teal and I still can remember it was like yesterday.
The day I knew I was hooked on ducks was when I shot my first drake mallard, I think I was 14 or 15. I was sitting about 50 yards from my dad and brother when a large flock of mallards decoyed in. They circled just out of range for them. As they looked over the decoys they sliped right over the top of me. I still get goosebumps thinking about raising the old Model 42 and picking out one duck in the middle. It was one of the first time I had seen a duck helicopter down after being hit. I was amazed it had dropped. The excitement was not all my own. My brother almost got to that greenhead before it hit the ground. I thought at first he was mad for me shooting at a flock that looked like it wanted to land in the decoys. Turns out the were about ready to yell at me to shoot. I don't think we got much more that day and I couldn't have cared less. I had a greenhead.
I do pheasant and deer hunt(and about anything else there is a season for), but enjoy most the uknown about waterfowling. You never know what will be the next to fly over.
