Drake's final hunt of the season...

I had the privilege to take Drake hunting for his final hunt of this season. So what happens when you take a mallard diver hunting? Drake was my token puddle duck in the event some mallards went by my diver spread. He went diver hunting with me and, my sneak shooting rig.

We had a wonderful couple of days. He got to hunt with decoys made by Geoff Vine, Ron Snow, Jode Hillman, Dave Ludington, Chuck Broomell, the late George Root, yours truly and, a 1920's bluebill decoy made by my great grandfather George Barto... Drake floated well and serviced like a good puddle duck should.

I thank the Good Lord for a good couple of days...

Pat, how many decoys do you use when hunting out of that little marsh boat? Any special shape or anything? I know I can carry at least 3 dz in my Fatboy DP, but usually use at least 5 dz when hunting divers here.

Carl - I hunted two days, first day was 61 degrees, second day was 67 degrees.
Mike - I generally hunt 2 dozen diver decoys, mostly bills. 3 bags of hand carved decoys, me and my personal gear is just about capacity for the 14ft. Four Rivers. Pat
