Varmints, or more accurately "vermin"...

In anticipation of the upcoming season, not to mention my recent bout of boredom, recently I did a quick inspection on my refurbished ZT Widgeon to find her in excellent shape EXCEPT for the little thumb sized hole some pesky little varmint chewed thru, right smack in the middle of the bottom of the canvas dodger. Guess a little repair is in order. I'm thinking a small, hand sewn patch with a little sealant should suffice. Grrrrr!

Anyone have any ideas how to discourage such behavior? From a mouse's perspective, this has to be a perfect place for a comfy home.

Good morning, Jon~

Sorry to hear about your voracious mouse.

Only solution I've found is a hard ('glass or wood) cockpit cover for off-season:

All the canvas and lines are stored in the boat. This has worked so far....

...or, you could invest in a vermin-tight, climate-controlled "duckboat house".....

All the best,

Believe it or not, bur Irish Spring soap is a very good mouse deterrent. We have a summer cabin and the mice take it over in the winter. We take original Irish Spring, cut it into chunks and put it the areas the mice liked to use. Not 100% but about 95% effective in keeping them away.

barn cats

while i was reading this post one of them was chirping away outside the screen door letting us know she caught another one

Sometimes we all have, well maybe some of us more than others, what I refer to as a "DOH" moment. I posted about vermin getting in and injuring the canvas on the dodger on my little boat, and asked about keeping them out and whatnot. In going thru some photos, it jogged my memory that I made the canvas and frame part of the dodger completely and very easily removable. Guess what IL be doing later today...

And by the way, the hatch has a hard, lockable cover, so that should suffice as far as the inside of the rig. I have witnessed no evidence of any damage to the inside.

Great day all!

Jon
