I hunted out of a BB2 with a 25hp a number of times including big, rough water. I always felt safe. Being a displacement hull you'll never get anywhere fast but you will arrive safely.
Because of those experiences, when I was ready to build my own I opted for the planing hull version, the BB3. I've run up to a 35hp on mine but know of several that run very nicely with 25s. I've had mine in some pretty nasty weather and 4 footers on Lake Michigan, Green Bay and Lake Manitoba. It is equally as safe as the BB2 and will still haul ass if the water conditions allow. My BB3 is hands down the best, safest, most stable boat I've ever owned.
Just remember that the best boat in the world won't make up for poor seamanship.
