Happy to report the goal was for us to put up sixty boxes. And as of this week it will be done. With over a hundred boxes out there. This year and last we should have some good action in them. I want to thank all of you who helped me with your information on the subject. All good information nothing bad. We all have our own ways of doing things. Some work and some do not. Just because you have a guard on your box. Don't mean the birds will make it. Same goes if you put them in a trees. Doesn't mean all predators are going to eat all the birds. Just as many die when they leave the nest and hit the water. They become live bait for many things. But I am here to say! your work means a lot . Every box we put out means are numbers of success will increase. If you put five out and only one produces you still win. 5-15 or more wood ducks could live. Because of you! if a few of them are hens and make it. You just help the wood duck population big time. Thanks again! There are sure a lot of smart and caring people here on this site. Great Job!!!

I am happy to see you do that! I was not able to add any mallard nesting tubes this year unfortunately. But the ones I have up are still holding strong with new bedding! I love wood ducks but we have very little habitat here in the Dakotas that support them, but there are some!

Thank you all, I'm sure you all do your part to help are great Sport. Already got a pair of wood ducks on my pond hanging on to one of my new boxes. Hope they use the honey moon suite. lol

Thank you Sr. Already got wood ducks on the pond and hoping they stay and use the boxes there. One pair is already landing on the box. So we will see.

Next year try putting one or two boxes out. You might turn the Dakotas into a wood duck haven. Hey you never know!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks

Great job! A month ago my brother and I did a wood duck box day with his son(7) and daughter(10) and my daughter(21). They built the boxes on a Saturday morning, and then last weekend we went out as a family and installed them. We only did 6. But we try to build a few a year. We checked and replaced bedding in a box my daughter and I built 10 years ago. There was a clutch of eggs from last year that didn't hatch. Only one hatched. It was a fun day being in the outdoors with the family.

Aaron, for the box where eggs didn't hatch-- was it mounted on a slick metal pole or was it on a tree with no predator guard? If it was the latter, it is possible a raccoon or other climbing predator killed the hen just after the first egg hatched. Here in NC boxes on trees without predator guards get decimated by coons. Just a thought... and
