Greetings from the Great White North.Not sure why it took so long to find this site, but better late than never. I have been shooting locally for black brant,snow geese and ducks for over 40 years from layout boats that are purpose built for our needs. The brant on open salt water bays, snow geese on marshy foreshore, and ducks on inner salt water marsh. The two boats below were designed by myself and built with the help of a couple friends. Solid fibreglass. The bigger boat will handle two shooters and about 75 brant decoys.It is 16 ft by 4 1/2. the smaller single man layout is 14 FT by just under 4. Both very seaworthy. Our brant season runs from Mar 1 - Mar 10 with a two bird limit
Will attempt to attach some pics

Thank you,Joe and Mike.There is only a small group of us, maybe 20 - 30 or so outfits that are geared up for this type of shooting.Brant hunting has been done on our Boundary Bay
which is right on the U.S.-Canada border, for probably over 120 years. Need a boat that can carry the whole outfit, do the job , and bring it back if bad weather comes up. Glad I found this site, good to share info, always interesting. Terry

Bill, have been in wind up to 25knots, 3-4 foot seas, not because I wanted to be, but sh*t happens. I have a portable
V-shaped wave deflector that attaches on the front deck and
is the same height as the doors in the upright position and fastens to them. Gives considerably more freeboard. The boat is very stable and rides the waves well, quartering into the wind. The bottom is about 3 feet across and flat and the sides angle up at about 45 degrees

Terry;

Very nice looking rig! I'm in Erie, Pa and we hunt from layout (box). I decided this year I'm going to find a Skiff that will allow me to hunt big water by myself. I recently found this awesome website, so, have been reading through all the posts,etc. Your rig really intrigues me.
I take it you built them yourself? If so, any chance you'd be willing to sell the plans, if you have them?
You can contact me @ BLUDWIG@ERIEBEARINGS.COM

Look forward to hearing from you

Hey Terry welcome, wealth of information here. Small world, I'm one of Todd's friends from Virginia that hunted up there with him a few times.

Mike- I only shoot SxS's for everything, just because, and have a couple SKB 100's that I use for saltwater and ugly hunting. They seem to stand up real well. Have shot them for a long time.Chambers lengthened to 3" and right choke opened on one gun.

Bruce- Boat was built about 12 years ago. We built a slug and then laid up and took off the halves. Built 3 boats.
Unfortunately slug and my drawings are history but I am happy to give dimensions. Will contact by e-mail.

Jason- Definately a small world, hope all goes well, as you know we are spoiled around here. Another excellent season on ducks and snow geese. Hopefully we will see you up here again.
