I used Golden's heavy modeling paste and apply with the sponge from a cheap foam brush.

Been quite awhile since I posted. Still doing a little bit of carving here is one I recently finished for a friend.

I met your father a few years back when he was in the area and picked up some carving wood from me. It was a pleasure to meet him and thoroughly enjoyed spending some time with him chatting about waterfowl hunting and carving. My deepest sympathies to you and your family.

Have you cut out the heartwood? Doing so will lessen extreme checking.
