We ARE IN FOR A RUDE AWAKENING!!!! SHORTER DUCK SEAON!!

I think anyone that has hunted sea duck for any length of time has to agree that the populations are drastically less than they were ten years ago. This is not only true here in Connecticut but in the northern areas as well. Although the all reasons are not really known, the fact that there...

    Towing Insurance

Despite constant upkeep of my trailer I had a catastrophic break down of a bearing a couple of years ago (brand new bearing!). Same deal. I called AAA and was told that they don't do trailers. I remembered my TowBoats membership. Long story short, I had a flat bed picking up the boat and...

    Conservation oriented banquets....

Jim, I think there are several reasons for the declining involvement in the fund raising events, not the least of which is an overall decline in the number of people who now hunt. Although Connecticut still has a pretty solid base of serious waterfowl hunters, there are fewer of us than...

    Spun prop x2?

I know that the larger Hondas (90 HP) have a hard rubber type hub that sits inside the prop and around the shaft. There's a possibility that the hub is worn and that the prop shaft, and not the prop itself, is spinning.

    Connecticut Waterfowlers Decoy Day

A couple members of this forum have asked me about the CWA Decoy Day. Well, it's planned again this year at Bozrah Rod and Gun Club in Lebanon for this Saturday, August 23. Information is posted on the Connecticut Waterfowlers web site. It will be the same as in years past, with an informal...

    Sporting Clays...

Sporting Clays is just a ball! The Connecticut Waterfowlers Association is hosting their annual sporting clays event at the Fin, Fur, and Feather club on June 21. It's always a good time, and the money raised goes to a good cause.

    Traditions Acrylic Paints

I've used oil paints successfully for many years on decoys, both shelf and hunting birds. I've started playing around with the Traditions Acrylics. I really like the soft look of the birds prior to using the glazing medium. My question is . . . Is the glazing medium really necessary with the...

    CWA Decoy Class

There's still a couple of openings if anyone might be interested. Steve has been drawing up patterns and cutting them out for the class. He likes to limit it to 10 or 12 people, as it's very "hand on". You can contact me for any info. Rich

    Bigfoot Floating Geese for Sale

I have a dozen of the the Bigfoot Floating Geese for sale-various flocked head positions. They've only be been used two or three times and are in essentially new condition. They're too big to ship but if anyone in the Connecdticut/RI area is interested, arrangements could be made. I will be...

    Ronan's Paints

MDI Wood Carvers Supply in Maine carries them. Real quick shipping, too. I've had similar problems with drying. I've put a sheet of plastic wrap over the top of the can before replacing the lid. Seems to form a gasket for the seal. Not foolproof, but it helps.

    Connecticut Waterfowlers Asso. Decoy Day

For the past several years the Connecticut Waterfowlers Association has hosted a "Decoy Day" at the Bozrah Rod and Gun Club in Lebanon, CT. It's been a fun event with a very informal decoy contest, raffle, etc.. . . . sort of an early season get together for local hunters. Several members...

These might be the ones that you were looking for. They're cork with cedar heads and I did offer them for sale a few years ago. I decided to keep them and still hunt with them. The mallard decoy in the second photo is "life-sized". Rich

    ticks and dogs (need advice)

I just brought the Lab to the vet yesterday for his spring tune up. The discussion of ticks came up. My vet suggested a product called TRIFEXIS. It's a once a month oral dose. It's advertised in this country for use against heartworm, fleas, and intestinal worms. According to the vet the...

    2011 / 2012 "DUCK SEASON" ????????

Bob B has the best reflection on a season. Really, none of us get involved in this sport because we need to put food on the table. Gosh, if you really fiqured out what the price of an ounce of duck meat cost, we'd all cry! You really have to look at it from enjoying the time out on the water...

    whats in your rig ?

Thanks. Yeah, all carved by me. The collection in the photo is the result of several years of making them, selling some off, replacing those, and making more. I guess I didn't realize how many there really were until I posted the reply here.
