    west coast SLR dump #1

Those images bring back memories; thanks. I went to high school in Shelton, and my dad worked for Tacoma City Light at Cushman, and later at Mayfield. I spent a lot of time hunting ducks at the bend of the canal, just south of the Cushman plant and beyond the state park. That estuary area...

    Trailer Lights, again....

When I lived on the coast and fished for salmon more than anything else, I built a light bar. I used 2x2 that spanned from gunnel to gunnel at the rear of the boat, added a couple of pieces to keep it from rolling and then mounted the lights and license plate on it. I used eyebolts and a pair...

    Crutches,,,,,,,,and a enhanced perspective

I feel your pain, sort of. This is going to sound new-age-hippie-vegan and sort of weird. However, it works for some folks. My wife has problems with her knees, and one of her friends convinced her that gluten (from wheat flour) might be the cause. Apparently, in some people, gluten will...

    Jode look what I found!

Ooo--that picture sends my stomach into whirls... I used to live on the Olympic Peninsula and loved chasing mushrooms-- shaggy manes, chanterelles and the like. There was an old pasture next to work that sprouted a bunch of giant puffballs. They were excellent fare. However, one night my...

    ? on Herters Model 72's

Those images bring back memories! I Herter's catalogs and wished I'd kept a few. I did run across some Herter's decoys in a hollow plastic in an antique shop. The paint was gone, and some had been patched where they'd been shot or mice had chewed a few holes. I didn't buy them but thought...

    Latest Gunning Coffin

Looking at the image of the bottom and the plans on your site makes me think that I may have found the pond box/garvey-pram I was looking for--with some modification, of course. i'm thinking that stretching dimensions by 20 percent in length and width and an increase in side height to 14...

Looking for a pond box plan

I appreciate all the suggestions. Thanks! However, I'm beginning to think I need to bite the bullet and build two boats: one for fishing and a pond box similar to Zack Taylor's for hunting. Given that I only have three boats at the moment, the navy is a bit on the slim side. But I'm...

Looking for a pond box plan

Thans for all the responses; I appreciate the feedback and assistance. I thought seriously about Zack Taylor's Pond Box, but I'm thinking it might be too cranky to row. The strip pits around here are mostly long and narrow, and non-cranky rowing is desirable. I did look at his gunning jon...

Looking for a pond box plan

I'm finally getting organized after a move into south-central-west Missouri. My plan now is to build a pond box that has three requirements: I must be able to lift it out of my big boat that will be used to transport it to the hunting area; it must be large/safe enough to house my 250-pound...

the southern end of our journey PIC HEAVY!

Great photos; you made me a bit homesick for my former home country. You were lucky with the weather--that early in the year isn't usually that dry. Thanks for sharing!

    1971 Mercury 4hp 2 stroke Merc 40

That does bring back memories-- while I didn't run Mercs, I do remember that often enough on old kicker motors, using the choke was one way of killing the motor. However, usually we would pull the gas line and run the fuel out on the last drift of the day. That seemed to save the carburetor...

    What's UNDER my Work Bench....

Steve-- I always like to see a new post from you as they are inspirational. Thank you for sharing. Now-- I'd also like to see more on shop organization as I'm in the process of setting up my shop, half of a two-car garage. This is the first time I've had the opportunity to dedicate a space...

    wide camera lens.

The more open the lens, the better, IMO, especially if you're shooting in low-light conditions. I've owned one Tokina for a Canon, and it was a good lens. That was some time back, though.

    Rust converting?

In the past, I used Naval Jelly that converted the iron oxide into a phosphate...or something like that. It seemed to do the job at stopping the rust.

The boat building process...home or commercial

At the moment, I tend to lurk way more than post, but I agree with both gentlemen.

    Tracker Grizz Quality?

I've been scouting for a fishing boat for some time, and as I live in northwest Arkansas, I figured that a Tracker might be an easy buy. There are a lot of them for sale, and being so close to the factory, I figured I could pick one up and save shipping. Then I started to do research on the...

    Fuel tank in sneakbox

In my old salmon skiff, I used to run the fuel line 14 feet without a problem, and that was to feed an old 35 hp Johnson. You might want to prime the line a bit for the first use, but as long as the primer bulb is good, you should be fine at that distance.

    Thoughts on 1860 mod v's

I own a Starcraft Sportsman 18, mod-vee jon. I've used it mostly for fishing--back in Washington saltwater and now here in Arkansas. While the paint says Starcraft, originally it was made as a Smokercraft (different brand by the dealer's request but made in the Smoker factory) and it's...

    Funny Friday story - NDR.

Yesterday, as I was cleaning a bunch of white bass, I looked at the massive roe sacs each female had, and I thought to myself, "Hmmm, I wonder..." While I think part of your problem was cooking the roe too long, I've decided that I don't really care to find out if white bass roe is edible cooked...

    Tax Software (NDR)

I've used Turbo Tax for five years or so, and I may again this year. I am self-employed, and it takes more time to get records organized than it does to run the program. However, I'm not totally satisfied that I get the best answers, and sometimes I've been positive that I didn't on minor...
